Student answer (Band 6.0)

Social life is more vital for today's generation. Taking pictures of themselves at every famous place becomes the habit of individuals without even looking at the place. This essay will discuss the reasons for this trend and why it is a negative trend for the society in the upcoming paragraphs.

The main reason of taking photographs at every known location is to get famous on social media. As a result people visit every site just to click selfies. Although posting on social media does not have any special requirement, people believes that every snap should have new background. For instance, younger generation will explore new places only to take pictures instead of knowing the history of the place. Moreover, content creators get paid to post on social platforms which will motivate others to do the same.

In my opinion, it is a negative trend because of numerous reasons. Firstly, nobody knows the actual history of the site. Everybody came as a picnic spot which will result in cultural and heritage loss. For example, visiting a museum for taking picture instead of getting the heritage knowledge. Secondly, more incidents happen of injuries and even of life loss. The distraction occurred due to mobile phones at any unknown location will leads to an accident. To exemplify this, incidents happen on the old forts are only due to negligence of individuals.

In conclusion, social life is important but forgetting everything else just to take snaps is not correct. People should be well aware of their surroundings before taking pictures at any location. Also mobiles should be restricted at some spaces like museum and holy places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the loss of cultural appreciation. However, the development is somewhat limited; for instance, the point about 'content creators' is mentioned but not fully explored in terms of its impact on the trend. The position is clear throughout, but the arguments could benefit from more depth and specific, nuanced examples to reach a higher band. Overall, the response covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a distinct focus. There is a clear progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover', 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas, although some transitions feel slightly mechanical. The referencing is generally clear, though there are minor issues with sentence-level flow, such as the phrasing 'Everybody came as a picnic spot', which slightly disrupts the logical connection between the sentence and the preceding point. Overall, the structure is sound and easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There is an attempt to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'heritage knowledge', 'negligence', and 'social platforms'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are occasional inaccuracies in word choice or collocation, such as 'getting the heritage knowledge' (better: 'gaining historical insight') and 'life loss' (better: 'loss of life'). While the vocabulary is sufficient to express the writer's ideas, it lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as subject-verb agreement issues ('people believes', 'distraction... will leads to') and article usage ('the old forts'). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some awkward phrasings that hinder the flow. While the errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching the 7.0 band. To improve, the writer should focus on subject-verb agreement and refining complex sentence structures to ensure they are error-free.
