Student answer (Band 6.0)

In todays world, majority of individuals visit popular destinations to capture pictures of themselves, rather than observing the place they have visited. This is happening due to social media influence and people making memories in the form of photos. In my prespective, it is a negative change because it decreases the cultural significance of the destination and it is a type of disrespect for that place.

Firstly, the major reason why people take photos of themselves in a popular place without looking at the place is beacuse of social media influence. Many people upload their pictures on instagram, facebook and tiktok just for likes and comments. Secondly, people click pictures to make memories of themselves. Ignoring the value of the well-known place people try to make memories by capturing photographs of their own. For instance, My friend went to Lahore Fort. On his return when I asked him about the history of that fort he was completelt blank and told me that, he just took pictures at the fort and did not know the history.

In my opinion, it is negative development as it reduces the cultural importance of the iconic destination. Every popular place have a history and it also have a cultural importance. If someone visit that place and could not understand it's cultural and historical value it will result in decrease of importance of that place. Moreover, it is also a type of disrespect for not knowing the history and importance of the place that they have explored.

To sum it all up, many people visit famous places and doesnot explore the spot and capture photos of themselves, which is due to the popularity on social media and making memories. It is a negative development as it declines the cultural importance and is a disrespect for that place

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The ideas are relevant, such as the influence of social media and the desire to create memories. However, the development is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'cultural significance' is mentioned in the introduction, the third paragraph, and the conclusion without adding new depth. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the consequences of this trend, perhaps discussing the impact on local communities or the psychological effect of living through a screen, rather than restating the same point.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use basic cohesive devices like 'Firstly', 'Secondly', and 'Moreover' to link your points. However, the cohesion is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear. For example, in the second paragraph, the sentence 'Ignoring the value of the well-known place people try to make memories by capturing photographs of their own' is a bit clunky and lacks a smooth transition from the previous sentence. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring smoother sentence-to-sentence flow would enhance the coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to express your ideas clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'cultural significance', 'iconic destination', and 'social media influence'. However, there are some spelling errors ('todays', 'prespective', 'completelt') and minor collocation issues, such as 'making memories in the form of photos' or 'it is a type of disrespect'. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and ensure you proofread for basic spelling mistakes, which currently limit the score in this criterion.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You demonstrate a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement ('Every popular place have', 'many people... doesnot explore') and article usage. Additionally, some sentences are slightly awkward, such as 'it will result in decrease of importance of that place'. To move to a higher band, you need to increase the frequency of error-free sentences and pay closer attention to basic grammatical rules like pluralization and verb conjugation.
