Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, the prevalence of rush to the well known places without having enough knowledge about them for the purpose of taking selfies and videos. This trend become viral as people use these pictures for social media content and show of their material values. I believe that its negative aspect materialistic approach and wastage of resources outweigh the positive prospects like broaden the vision and and increase of the tourism.

First and foremost reason of increasing trend on rush to the unseen areas is people use different social media and get influence by the celebrities they want to follow them and would prefer to visit that place with getting enough information about the place. Moreover, people want content for the social media posts and sponsorship if they have large number of followers. For example, in Pakistan there was a trend prevail in winter to visit the northern area to watch the snow. However there was a huge number of vehicles entered into the Murree and due to sudden land sliding traffic jammed for 12 hours. A numbers of causalities happened due to misinformation and mismanagement.

This emerging trend has both positive and negative effects. Firstly, it gave the chance to explore the different culture and meet different people which broaden their view. Secondly, it promote the tourism industry which leads the employment in various sectors like hospitality, tour guide and in transportation. On the other hand, it create the discriminations in the society, people watch spending lot of money on unnecessary picnics and try to follow them. It leads to the wastage of financial resource for those how has limited wealth. It sets the materialistic goals who who can not afford it. For instant, young generation blackmail their parents to full their wishes by watching these photoaged.

In conclusion, visiting other places give exposure to the different culture and cities but I believe it is a proliferation in the society of materialistic approach.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. You clearly state your position that the negative aspects outweigh the positive. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The first paragraph is a sentence fragment, which impacts the clarity of your introduction. While you provide a relevant example regarding the Murree incident, the connection between the 'selfie' trend and the tragedy is slightly tenuous. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are more tightly linked to the specific phenomenon of 'taking photographs without looking at the place' rather than general tourism issues.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and you use basic cohesive devices such as 'First and foremost', 'Moreover', 'Firstly', and 'On the other hand'. However, the flow is occasionally interrupted by awkward phrasing and grammatical errors, such as the opening sentence which lacks a main verb. Some transitions feel mechanical, and the referencing is sometimes unclear, particularly in the third paragraph where the pronoun 'them' is used without a clear antecedent. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'prevalence', 'materialistic approach', and 'proliferation'. However, there are several instances of inaccurate word choice and collocation, such as 'get influence by the celebrities' (should be 'influenced by'), 'trend prevail' (should be 'prevailed'), and 'photoaged' (likely a typo for 'photographs'). These errors do not generally impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on using collocations correctly and proofreading for word-form errors.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Examples include the opening sentence fragment, subject-verb agreement issues ('This trend become viral'), and incorrect preposition usage ('entered into the Murree'). There are also issues with article usage and word order, such as 'A numbers of causalities happened'. While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding your main points, they occur frequently enough to suggest a lack of control over more complex structures. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
