Student answer (Band 5.0)

These days lot of people are visisting well known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place. According to me this has both posistive and negative and positive effect. I think there can be many reasons behind that.

Let's talk about the positive first i think this is a good think that people take pics wherever they go one of the best thing of taking photograps is that they stay like pics are always with you they are our memories for us that u have visited this place. Later on in life people remeber the moments of your life by looking at that pics. For example my mother and father visisted a temple a very long time ago when i was not even born so my mother show me that picture sometimes and remebers that how happy she was when she visisted there with dad. i personally thinks some photographs are happiness and memories for some people.

On the other hand, this thing also has a negative effect due to social media like these days influencers go somewhere and they post the pics and people in the comment ask oh which place is this out of curiosity and due to these reasons some tourist places are getting overcrowded these days such as coachella is very good example of this thing. sometimes i think that social media really ruined the beauty of some places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and discussing whether it is positive or negative. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The arguments are somewhat superficial; for instance, the discussion on social media and overcrowding is relevant but lacks depth and specific supporting evidence. The position is clear, but the limited length prevents a fully developed response, leading to a score of 5.0. To improve, you must expand your points with more detailed explanations and examples to meet the word count requirement.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression is weak. The use of cohesive devices is very limited and often repetitive (e.g., 'this thing', 'due to these reasons'). The transition between the positive and negative aspects is abrupt. While the reader can follow the general flow of ideas, the lack of sophisticated linking words and the mechanical nature of the transitions make the writing feel disjointed. Improving the use of cohesive devices like 'consequently', 'furthermore', or 'in contrast' would help create a smoother flow between your arguments.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. You rely on simple words like 'good', 'thing', and 'pics' throughout the text. There are also several spelling errors, such as 'visisting', 'posistive', and 'remebers'. While the meaning is generally clear, the range of vocabulary is insufficient to demonstrate a higher level of proficiency. To achieve a higher band, you should aim to use more precise, academic vocabulary and ensure correct spelling. Avoid informal abbreviations like 'pics' and strive for more varied word choices to express your ideas more effectively.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including subject-verb agreement issues ('my mother show me', 'i personally thinks') and punctuation mistakes. The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. When complex structures are attempted, they often contain errors that affect clarity. The lack of control over basic grammar, such as capitalization and verb tense consistency, is noticeable. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and consistent use of tenses before attempting more complex grammatical structures.
