Student answer (Band 6.0)

Social media has created a parallel world, where people spend majority of their time discussing various issues, collecting new ideas, posting the images they captured, and even make their own verdicts to the problems which no courts can issue. Many people say that, people are visiting places to just take pictures without enjoying the actual beauty of the place. The main reason behind this is the social media, where they post all the images that they have captured. These opportunities which are provided by the social media have limited the time of people, especially, youngsters to look around and explore the world. In my opinion, negatives out weigh the positives of this trend, and we will discuss a more broader view point of we have discussed above.

Attention seeking is one main factor that exploits our youth and tend them to capture more photos than enjoying the world around them. They are in a hurry to inform the world on where they are, and get likes and comments in the social media accounts. The ecstasy they get from this is form of appreciations are immense and they go to any extent in order to achieve this.

As a result, people have forgotten to enjoy the places they visit. They will just take photographs for their show-offs within their peer. Moreover, they are not aware of whatever happening around them from any natural phenomenon to a disaster. For example, a recent incident that happened in India, where poor people were heinously attacked by two terrorists at Pehlgham in Kashmir. Many youngsters were busy with capturing their pictures and the beauty this great tourist destination, and they didn't realize that they are going encounter with an unfortunate incident. The only way possible to tackle this situation is to re-educate people on how to sensible and responsible while they are at an unknown place.

In conclusion, it can be execerbated that people are dying for attention with the pictures they capture. This can only be reduced by educating them on how to enjoy the nature around them.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The example provided regarding the incident in Kashmir is quite extreme and arguably tangential to the core issue of 'taking photos without looking at the place,' which weakens the logical flow of the argument. While the ideas are relevant, they could be more deeply explored with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on a single, dramatic anecdote. Overall, the task is addressed, but the depth of analysis is limited.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Moreover,' 'As a result,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical or forced. The referencing is generally clear, though the sentence structure in the introduction is a bit clunky, which slightly disrupts the flow. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body paragraphs, and conclusion, providing a coherent structure for the reader to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are attempts to use less common vocabulary, such as 'ecstasy,' 'heinously,' and 'exacerbated.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'make their own verdicts to the problems' (instead of 'pass judgment on') and 'it can be exacerbated that' (which is an incorrect usage of the word). These errors do not impede communication, but they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the writer attempts complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Many people say that, people are visiting' (unnecessary comma), 'tend them to capture' (incorrect verb usage), and 'how to sensible and responsible' (missing verb). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely prevent the reader from understanding the intended meaning. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of infinitives.
