Student answer (Band 6.5)

It has been noticed that most people visit famous places just to click their pictures. They do not have any knowledge about the significance or history of the monument. This is because, they just want to upload them on social media to look superior among their peers. I certainly believe this is a negative trend for society especially for the young generation.

One of the Major reason behind this trend is the popularity of social media. Most of the people follow renowned personalities on different platforms and get to know about the different locations from their posts, stories, and movies. So, they visit the same places which are in the movies or posts without knowing the values of the place. Sometimes, they don't even look and feel the energy of the place physically, they just want to click asthetic photos for their Instagram. Additionally, people do not want to visit places with real significance such as forts, castles or museums, rather they like to travel to picturesque places such as flashy modern buildings or cafes with good ambiance.

This perspective could negatively impact the society, because they have limited knowledge about their history and culture. If a young individual only visits picturesque places, he could never get exposure to culture and lack essential skills like problem-solving and critical thinking. In my viewpoint, parents should choose locations wisely, so that it could help their kids to learn about different landscapes, religions, and moral values.

To sum up, rather than traveling to famous places for pictures and content, we should explore places like museums, art galleries, and historical forts. Doing so, this will help parents to teach their children about their history, religion and values.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the link between visiting picturesque places and a lack of 'problem-solving and critical thinking' is asserted but not fully explained or supported with concrete logic. While the response covers the requirements, the arguments could be more deeply explored to reach a higher band. The conclusion is relevant and reinforces the main stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation. Cohesive devices such as 'Additionally', 'In my viewpoint', and 'To sum up' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother in the second paragraph. Referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the desire for social media validation and the specific lack of historical knowledge could be more tightly linked.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate and appropriate for the task. There is an attempt to use less common items like 'significance', 'renowned', and 'ambiance'. However, there are some minor inaccuracies and spelling errors, such as 'asthetic' (aesthetic) and 'Major reason' (should be lowercase). The range is sufficient to convey the message clearly, but it lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score. The repetition of words like 'places' and 'pictures' could be reduced by using more varied synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, such as 'One of the Major reason' (should be 'reasons') and 'Doing so, this will help' (a comma splice or redundant structure). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor issues with comma usage throughout. While the errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent the response from reaching the 7.0 band, which requires more frequent error-free sentences and better control over complex structures.
