Student answer (Band 5.5)

Social media is kind of a parallel world where people lives are way too different from the outside world. Many believe say that people visits well-known places to just take photographs, and not to enjoy its beauty. In my opinion, the negatives of this trend out weigh its positives because people take photos to show-off in the internet. They post these photos in these social media platforms to get like and comments. Only a few who make monetary benefits from these posts are exceptional cases, and this essay will discuss a broader view point of what is mentioned above.

Attention is seeking is one of the main reason why people spend all their productive time in these social media platforms and in this world, they get nothing but likes, comments and appreciations. They go to any extent with this regard, and many of them end up living a disoriented life, and fail to concentrate and work for their career betterment. As a result, they loose respect in the society as well as within their peer group. Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. However, the development is inconsistent. While the negative impact is discussed, the argument is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. The final paragraph is incomplete, ending abruptly with 'lufe', which suggests a lack of careful planning. The position is clear, but the supporting ideas are under-developed, particularly the brief mention of professional photographers, which feels disconnected from the main argument about social media validation.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5

The essay is organised into paragraphs, but the logical flow is hampered by weak transitions and incomplete thoughts. For example, the second paragraph ends mid-sentence ('but in life'), and the third paragraph is extremely short and lacks a clear connection to the previous point. Cohesive devices are used, but they are often mechanical or misused, such as the transition into the final paragraph. The overall progression of ideas is disjointed, making it difficult for the reader to follow the argument to a satisfying conclusion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks precision and variety. There are several instances of awkward phrasing and word-choice errors, such as 'Attention is seeking' instead of 'Attention-seeking' and 'monetary benefits' instead of 'monetising their content'. The repetition of basic terms like 'people', 'photos', and 'successful' limits the range. While the meaning is generally conveyed, the lack of sophisticated or idiomatic language prevents a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include subject-verb agreement issues ('people lives', 'people visits'), incorrect word forms ('loose' instead of 'lose'), and punctuation errors. The incomplete sentence at the end of the second paragraph and the typo in the final word ('lufe') demonstrate a lack of control over sentence structure and proofreading. These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable throughout the text.
