Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's rapidly evolving world, purpose of visiting famous landmark has become a subject of considerable debate. An increasing number of people visit iconic sites just to take photographs of themselves , while ignoring the importance of place .This essay will critically examine the underlying causes of this trend before explaining why it is a negative trend.

One of the main reason behind this phenomenon is the influence of social media platforms such as Instagram and Facebook on people's thinking towards iconic places. Individuals have become more attention seeker by simply showing off their pictures of visit to famous attractions and want to receive online likes, comments and create a glamorous digital lifestyle. Another compelling driving force can be a fear of missing out because feel pushed to go where others go just to keep up with trends , if they are not doing this , it may cause them a feeling of anxiety that arise from the realization they are going to missing out on rewarding experiences that others are having.

From my perspective, this trend is negative as it undermines the significance of famous sites, because they hold the history, art, and core values of human culture. Moreover , they bring people together to share common human heritage . I believe visiting famous building just for showing off is a disrespectful act .

Taking everything into consideration, digiatl life and social media platforms are the root cause of this trend

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying causes and expressing a clear negative stance. However, the essay is under the 250-word minimum, which significantly impacts the development of ideas. The arguments regarding social media and the 'fear of missing out' are relevant but remain somewhat superficial due to the lack of word count. The conclusion is abrupt and fails to fully synthesize the points made. To improve, you should expand on your examples and ensure that your arguments are fully explored to meet the length requirement and provide a more comprehensive response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'Moreover' and 'Taking everything into consideration,' to link your points. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the transition between the causes and the personal opinion could be smoother. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the final paragraph is underdeveloped, which disrupts the overall flow of the argument. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a balanced structure would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'iconic sites,' 'compelling driving force,' and 'human heritage.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'attention seeker' (should be 'attention seekers') and 'visiting famous building' (should be 'buildings'). There are also minor spelling errors like 'digiatl.' While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey your meaning, you need to use more precise collocations and ensure grammatical accuracy when using these terms to reach a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow, such as 'purpose of visiting famous landmark has become' (missing articles), 'One of the main reason' (should be 'reasons'), and 'if they are not doing this , it may cause them a feeling of anxiety that arise' (subject-verb agreement). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with spacing before commas. To improve, focus on subject-verb agreement, the correct use of articles, and proofreading for minor slips in sentence construction.
