Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays many individuals take their own pictures in front of renowned place without admiring its history and beauty. This trend is majorly influenced by the social media for various reasons. Undoubtedly, this endeavour has negative impact on society.

Firstly, social media applications like Instagram, TikTok and Facebook largely influence people to take the photo of themselves and post in these social accounts. This propensity fetch humongous comments, compliments and likes to enhance their followers, views and flaunt in front of the friends, relatives and society to showcase their overall glamorous looks and places they visited. Moreover, this will also render them various social status to connect with new people and showcase their financial background.

I personally believe that, this phenomenon has umpteen drawbacks which creates numerous chaos, and also harm the environment in various ways without understanding significance about the place and history. First of all, when one stand in front of the view point and try to take the picture perfect of their own, this might create sever complication to others who come to visit the place and to know the history of the place due to the overcrowding. For example, a famous actor who was trying to take perfect photo in front of Taj Mahal created lot of disturbance to other public to enter inside the monument. Similarly, due to this habit one might miss the essential information about the place and try to harm the place without understanding the importance.

To conclude, prioritising pictures instead experiencing and learning facts about the place is highly due to the social media influence and I believe this would create problem to environment and other public to overcrowding.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While the influence of social media is identified as a primary driver, the explanation of why this is a negative trend could be more deeply explored. The example of the actor at the Taj Mahal is relevant but lacks sufficient detail to fully support the argument. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is expanded with more nuanced reasoning rather than relying on general statements.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organised into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'Firstly', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For instance, the transition between the discussion of social media influence and the environmental/social impact could be more sophisticated. Referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between ideas could be strengthened to improve the overall progression of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student uses a range of vocabulary appropriate for the topic, such as 'renowned', 'propensity', and 'significance'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'fetch humongous comments', 'render them various social status', and 'create sever complication'. These errors occasionally impede the natural flow of the text. While the student attempts to use less common vocabulary, the lack of precision in these choices prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on natural collocations and more precise word usage will significantly improve the lexical score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors throughout the text, including subject-verb agreement issues ('one stand', 'this trend... are'), missing articles ('the social media', 'the photo'), and awkward phrasing ('is highly due to'). While these errors do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, the student should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed correctly to avoid errors that detract from the overall quality of the writing.
