More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place.

Why do you think this is happening?

Is it a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the contemporary world, myriads of people travel to famous locations to click their pictures without searching about that place. I believe it is because they are more inclined to post these pictures on the social media to increase their number of followers. From my perspective, this trend has both its advantages as well as disadvantages for them, thus, they should prefer to check the conditions before they make plans to travel there.

One of the main reasons of this trend is social media that is ubiquitous in the modern era. Everybody especially the young generation is more influenced by this and youngsters are looking to increase their followers on the social media platforms such as Instagram, Facebook, and TikTok, therefore, they have started creating their personal blogs for which they travel to famous places to capture their photographs. As they are extremely occupied in editing their blogs, publishing them online and checking their views so they do not spend time on searching about these locations. To exemplify, numerous people in India has started travelling to the Leh Ladakh to take pictures in a mesmerizing environment but they neglect checking the oxygen level which is comparatively low there from other areas.

Examining some benefits and drawbacks of travelling to well known places, it allows people to learn about different cultures, traditions and lifestyle of people living there. They can experience pristine weather conditions what they have either learnt in the books or have heard from other social media stars. By travelling and taking pictures there, they can earn money by posting them on the social media. When the number of views on their blogs reach to four-digit numbers as many social website are paying bloggers these days. Conversely, it can be dangerous for them to travel in such areas especially when weather conditions are not favorable or where suburbs are not developed with the medical and other mandatory facilities.

To conclude, although it is undeniable that people are following the trend to post pictures of different locations on the social media so that they can influence their followers, earn money, and experience new cultures, they should not forget to precheck weather conditions or availability of required facilities there.
