Student answer (Band 6.0)

Huge number of individuals are believed to be visiting famous places only to take photographs of their own rather than looking at the view. This is happening because of people's obsession of being liked and get more popularity on social media. As per my opinion this is a negative trend. It creates fake hype hype of the place. The people sometimes fall from cliff and in the rivers to get better view.

Firstly, clicking different angled pictures and then sharing them on social media after editing creates false hype of the place which is not actually that nice. That gives people the reason to visit the place only to realize that it was not worth their only leave from the busy schedule. Additionally, people always end up having a digital memory rather that the actual memory.

Secondly, seeing good pictures of others motivates the youth to do better than others. For example, we have seen significantly increasing number of incidents being reported where people often fall from the top of a mountain only trying to taking a selfie from the end point to get a better view. Despite of the hazard people never learn from other's mistake like they compete for the better view.

Lastly, Too many people these days visit well-known places only to click pictures of themselves other than looking at the place. Due to the insane urge for being liked and to look superior than others is destroying the core value of going out in nature and enjoying time with oneself. The coming generations will only witness our happiness on social media and we will lose our real joy in this digital attack.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. While the first body paragraph discusses the 'false hype' of locations, the second paragraph focuses more on the physical dangers of selfie-taking rather than the core issue of the trend itself. The final paragraph is somewhat repetitive of the introduction. To improve, ensure each paragraph focuses on a distinct, well-supported argument that directly answers the 'why' and 'is it positive/negative' components of the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear topic sentence. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Additionally', and 'Lastly' are used to signal the progression of ideas. However, the flow within paragraphs is sometimes hindered by repetitive phrasing and slightly mechanical transitions. For example, the repetition of 'better view' and 'well-known places' makes the text feel a bit circular. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that referencing (e.g., using pronouns to refer back to previous ideas) is more precise would help the essay achieve a higher band score for cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their opinion clearly. There are some attempts at less common collocations, such as 'digital memory' and 'core value'. However, there are instances of awkward phrasing and word choice, such as 'fake hype hype' (repetition) and 'only leave from the busy schedule' (unnatural). The vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band. Focusing on more natural collocations and avoiding repetitive word choices would enhance the quality of the writing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the accuracy of the writing. Examples include 'photographs of their own' (should be 'themselves'), 'fall from cliff and in the rivers' (missing articles), and 'Despite of the hazard' (incorrect preposition usage). Additionally, there are minor errors in subject-verb agreement and article usage throughout. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy and ensuring that complex sentence structures are constructed correctly without errors.
