Student answer (Band 6.0)

Social media has become powerful tool for humans to be upgraded all the time.

Many individuals are exploring famous landmarks to take pictures of themselves, without doing any research of that particular place. There are several reasons behind it, such as social media, fear of missing the place. It has some pros and cons, which will be discuss in the essay.

Firstly, people are investing their time and money into online platforms, like Instagram, Facebook, and Snapchat. There are many human beings, who want to show themselves on social media just to look smart and cool in front of their friends and family. For instance, last year in 2025 a study revealed by Heritage Group that more than 60% tourist do not listen the story behind the ancient times, visitors only focus on their social status, while visiting the place. Secondly, individuals have fear or missing out the place. Seeing others photos from famous destinations encourages people to visit the same places, to be updated on the social networks.

However, there are a few positive and negative parts as well. The bad thing is tourists may ended up spending thousands on their trip. For instance, travelers have to pay for the hotel, restaurant, transportation, any many more other expenses. Additionally, various popular places can become overcrowded, causing damage to historical sites and the environment. On the other hand, many tourists can also get raw experience by not knowing the place, it could become best memories for themselves.

In summary, because of social media people can easily influence by others and try to show off on social groups. There are many disadvantages, for example spending too much money, heritage buildings can become overcrowded and possibly damaging sites. I highly think that It is a negative trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear, stating it is a negative trend in the conclusion. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding 'fear of missing out' is brief, and the argument about the 'positive' aspects of not knowing a place is underdeveloped and slightly confusing. To reach a higher band, you should ensure that each reason is fully supported with clear, logical explanations rather than just listing them. The example provided regarding the 'Heritage Group' study adds relevance, but the overall depth of analysis could be improved to better satisfy the requirements for a fully developed response.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'However', and 'In summary' to guide the reader. While the progression of ideas is generally clear, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical. Additionally, there are instances where the flow between sentences could be smoother; for example, the transition between the discussion of social media and the 'pros and cons' section feels abrupt. Referencing is generally clear, but the structure of the argument within the paragraphs could be more sophisticated to improve the overall cohesion of the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'landmarks', 'social status', and 'overcrowded'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'upgraded all the time', 'do not listen the story', and 'get raw experience'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of your writing. To improve, focus on learning common collocations and using more precise academic vocabulary. The range is sufficient to convey your meaning, but it lacks the flexibility and sophistication required for higher band scores.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you attempt complex sentences, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'tourist do not listen' (subject-verb agreement), 'fear or missing out' (preposition error), 'tourists may ended up' (verb form error), and 'people can easily influence by others' (passive voice error). These errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text, though they rarely prevent the reader from understanding your message. To improve, pay closer attention to verb tenses, subject-verb agreement, and the correct formation of passive structures. Increasing the frequency of error-free sentences will significantly improve your score.
