Student answer (Band 6.5)

These days, Majority of individuals prefer to visit famous places for taking pictures of themselves instead of exploring the beauty or history of those places. I believe there are multiple causes behind this concern and it is a completely negative development.

The primary reason regarding why people only visit popular places to take photographs of themselves is a bad influence from social media. To explain it, in this modernized era, everyone is usually active on social media and people always scroll their phones to see posts and stories of other people. For example, there are approximately 90% of individuals are using Snapchat and Instagram and everyday share their pictures while visiting many scenic and historical places to get views and increase their followers . As a result, other people watch them and easily get influenced by them and then just visit places for taking selfies or photos without showing no interest in the history of place. Another reason can be hectic schedule . People have less time to explore the places as everyone is working and they just take pictures with them either for a memory or show off.

However, this is a undoubtedly a negative trend due to various reasons. The prominent negative aspect of this trend could be lack of knowledge among people about the history or importance of that place. To illustrate , In Amritsar which is a state of Punjab in India and very popular tourist attraction. There is one historical place called Jallianwala Bagh and I also visited their but what I felt their is people just take photos to show other people that they have visited a great historical place but if they will be asked about the history I am sure most of them will be speechless. Therefore , this behavior of people also affecting them that our young generations and future generations may be unfamiliar with our great historical achievements.

To conclude, although hectic schedule and social media influence are the main reasons which are restricting people to explore places but it can affect badly our future and current generations as they loose interest in the history of the well-known places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. The ideas, such as social media influence and the lack of historical appreciation, are relevant and supported with a personal example regarding Jallianwala Bagh. However, the development of the 'hectic schedule' point is somewhat thin and could have been expanded further to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-focused and covers all requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary reason', 'To explain it', 'As a result', and 'To conclude' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some minor issues with referencing and flow; for instance, the phrase 'without showing no interest' is a double negative that disrupts the flow, and some transitions feel slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow throughout the text.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express ideas clearly. There are attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'modernized era', 'scenic', and 'historical achievements'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'without showing no interest' (should be 'showing no interest') and 'restricting people to explore' (should be 'restricting people from exploring'). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the sophistication and precision required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the history of place' instead of 'the history of the place'), subject-verb agreement ('there are approximately 90% of individuals are using'), and punctuation (incorrect spacing before commas). The sentence 'I also visited their but what I felt their is' contains significant errors in word choice and structure. These errors are noticeable but do not prevent the reader from understanding the main points.
