Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and offering an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited and often unclear. For instance, the explanation regarding why people take photos is vague, and the argument about 'security' in the negative impact paragraph is underdeveloped and lacks a clear link to the act of taking photographs. Furthermore, the response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, which significantly impacts the depth of the argument. To improve, you should expand on your points with specific examples and ensure your position is clearly maintained throughout.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often disjointed. While some cohesive devices are used, such as 'To commence with' and 'On the other hand', they are sometimes used mechanically or incorrectly. The referencing is occasionally unclear, making it difficult for the reader to follow the flow of thought. For example, the transition between the positive effects of technology and the personal benefits of spending time with loved ones is abrupt. Improving the use of linking words and ensuring each paragraph has a clear, singular focus would enhance the overall coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, which limits your ability to express complex ideas. There are frequent errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'bothe', 'forth coming', 'curosity', and 'protocals'. These errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding. To reach a higher band, you should aim to use a wider range of vocabulary, including less common lexical items, and focus on accurate spelling and collocation. For example, instead of 'click pictures', you could use 'capture images' or 'photograph'. Expanding your vocabulary through reading and practice will help you convey your points with more precision.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors throughout. Issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'technology and smart devices is'), missing articles, and incorrect punctuation. Many sentences are fragmented or poorly constructed, such as 'For example, dont get time move out their from hectic schdule'. These errors are frequent and sometimes make the meaning difficult to grasp. To improve, focus on mastering basic sentence construction, subject-verb agreement, and proofreading your work to correct common slips in grammar and punctuation.
