Student answer (Band 6.5)

Nowadays youngsters only visit the attractions which are famous for taking pictures, without doing proper research about the history or reality of the place. I strongly believe, new generations should not rush to a location just because it is famous. But they should do appropriate analysis before planning the trip.

To begin with, because of social media boom everyone runs for new attractions either to click pictures or to post on social media. This has increased number of crimes as well as accidents, this is because some places are not safe and also require professionals to accompany them. Recently on my visit to Bali, I visited an attraction which is very famous. After arriving to the location I got to know it was nothing but just gates, where tourist have to pay for clicking pictures in front of them. This situation made me realise how much power social media has on minds of youngsters.

Moreover, due to the era where everyone likes to outshine each other. People usually plans trips even though they are not fit enough for that adventure. This mind set brings the possibility of serious injuries. For example, tourists jumps off the cliff into an unknown lake to make some fancy video, even though they know nothing about swimming or the depth of that area. This makes the situation difficult for them as well as their loved ones.

Although having many disadvantages, these platforms has created a way for locals to earn livelihood in their area. Since tourists visits, locals get opportunities to setup small shops, to sell local handicrafts as well as food.

To conclude, everyone should do proper research as well as assessment of their health before visiting any new tourist attractions just to take photographs. Since safety is most important for them as well as their families, It is suggested to take professional help whenever required.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. You clearly state your position that it is a negative trend, supported by examples like the Bali experience and the dangers of cliff jumping. However, the development is somewhat uneven. The discussion on the benefits for locals is brief and lacks depth compared to the negative aspects. To reach a higher band, ensure that all points are equally well-developed and that your position remains consistent throughout the essay. The introduction is a bit abrupt; a more comprehensive overview of the topic would strengthen the opening.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'Moreover', and 'To conclude' to guide the reader. However, the flow between sentences is occasionally mechanical. For instance, the transition between the social media impact and the Bali example could be smoother. Additionally, some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the use of 'this' at the start of sentences, which could be more specific. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate, and the progression of ideas is generally easy to follow.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'attractions', 'handicrafts', and 'assessment'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, but some word choices are slightly unnatural or imprecise, such as 'social media boom' or 'runs for new attractions'. There are also minor errors in collocation, such as 'do appropriate analysis' instead of 'conduct thorough research'. While these errors do not impede communication, they prevent the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on more precise collocations and academic phrasing would improve your score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While you successfully use some complex forms, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' missing before 'social media'), subject-verb agreement ('tourists jumps'), and punctuation (comma splices). For example, 'This has increased number of crimes as well as accidents, this is because...' is a run-on sentence that should be punctuated differently. While these errors are noticeable, they rarely impede the reader's understanding. To improve, focus on proofreading for basic subject-verb agreement and ensuring that complex sentences are punctuated correctly.
