Student answer (Band 6.5)

In this contemporary era, a considerable amount of individuals are going to famous spots to take photographs of themselves, without knowing about the place. In my perspective, it is mainly a negative trend.

To begin with, one major reason behind this trend is the social media pressure. This is because every person is trying to gain followers on platforms like instagram, tiktok and facebook. As a result, everyone is rushing here and there in order to get some content to post on their social media pages. Another reason is earning pressure from online platforms. As genral population prefels watching something different from daily lives, so influencers also go anywhere to show their trips and lifestyle which results in gaining views, comments and likes, automatically results in earning money from platforms.

Furthermore, this is a negative trend as it distract masses from experincing the beauty of that place. It not only hinders experincing the beauty of the place but also results in lacking appreciation in people about that landmark. For instance, young generation is busy in earning money through online platforms and they go to different landmarks. Most of them only go there click pictures and come back to their homes without explaining their feeling about that place. Additionally, sometimes they visit historical places just to add content to their page, however, they do not aquire any background knowledge of that place.

In conclusion, Although, taking pictures of themselves for content results in supporting individuals to fulfil their dream of becoming famous and supporting them financially but negative aspects must not be ignored. People can work on improving their knowledge by searching about the place before going there and can guide other individuals.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction. The ideas regarding social media pressure and financial incentives are relevant and well-developed. However, the explanation of why it is a negative trend could be more nuanced; while you mention the lack of appreciation for landmarks, the argument could benefit from deeper exploration of the cultural or historical loss involved. Overall, the response is well-focused and meets the requirements of the task effectively.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Each paragraph has a central theme, such as social media pressure or the negative impact on cultural appreciation. Cohesive devices like 'To begin with', 'Furthermore', and 'In conclusion' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. For example, the sentence 'As genral population prefels watching...' contains minor errors that slightly disrupt the logical progression. Overall, the paragraphing is appropriate and the progression of ideas is clear.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'contemporary era', 'hinder', and 'background knowledge'. There are some spelling errors, such as 'genral', 'prefels', 'experincing', and 'aquire', which suggest a need for more careful proofreading. While you attempt to use more sophisticated vocabulary, some collocations are slightly unnatural, such as 'earning pressure' or 'distract masses'. To reach a higher band, focus on using less common lexical items with greater precision and ensuring accurate spelling throughout the text.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical slips, such as 'a considerable amount of individuals' (should be 'number of'), 'results in lacking appreciation in people' (awkward phrasing), and 'Although... but' (a redundant structure). Punctuation is generally functional, but there are minor errors in sentence construction. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. Increasing the variety of complex structures and ensuring subject-verb agreement would improve the overall accuracy.
