Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, a significant number of tourists visit well-known places to click pictures of themselves, without knowing much about the place because it can help tourists to explore and experience multi-cultural places. Although it enhances people's geographical knowledge, I believe visiting random unknown places can be dangerous.

One major reason why more and more people visit random places to click their photographs is that it enhances their geographical and cultural knowledge. This is because tourists can learn about various places, culture and languages. Therefore, it gives them a better experience when they try to communicate with the local residents. Moreover, tasting different cuisine is more suitable for those who like eating. For example, visitors could visit a random place where they can understand they geographical culture, local language and taste their cuisine. As a result, it improves overall knowledge about various cultures and prepare visitors for their future trips.

However, I personally believe that visiting an unknown place without knowing much about it dangerous and injurious to health. This is because visiting any random place without knowing about its weather, helpline could result in facing real struggle in case of emergency. For example, travelers can stuck in a place where the temperature is extremely high and poor network coverage can make it more worse while seeking for the help. As a result, travelers may be stranded in an area where no help can be reached.

In conclusion, although visiting various places for tourism is a better activity, half knowledge can be dangerous. Therefore, I personally believe that to make a trip successful, an individual should get a vast knowledge about a destination without planning.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, but the development of ideas is somewhat inconsistent. The student identifies reasons for the trend, such as cultural exploration, but the argument is slightly contradictory; the prompt asks about people taking photos without looking at the place, yet the essay focuses on the benefits of visiting places to learn about culture. The link between 'taking photos without looking' and 'gaining knowledge' is not clearly established. The position on whether it is positive or negative is stated, but the reasoning regarding 'danger' feels disconnected from the specific behavior of taking photographs. To improve, ensure that the arguments directly address the specific phenomenon described in the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, and there is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'As a result,' and 'In conclusion' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear. For instance, the transition between the benefits of tourism and the dangers of visiting unknown places lacks a smooth logical bridge. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the internal flow of ideas within the paragraphs could be more sophisticated to achieve a higher band score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the student to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'injurious to health' and 'stranded,' which are used correctly. However, there are instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'click pictures' (better: 'take photographs'), 'understand they geographical culture' (grammatical error), and 'make it more worse' (redundant). The range is sufficient to communicate the message, but it lacks the precision and flexibility required for higher bands.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Examples include 'can stuck in a place' (should be 'can get stuck'), 'seeking for the help' (should be 'seeking help'), and 'get a vast knowledge' (should be 'gain extensive knowledge'). Punctuation is generally accurate, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. To improve, the student should focus on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of modal verbs and prepositions.
