Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, increasing number of visitors are being taken photographs without fully exploring places. Their main focus is on taking selfie rather than exploring famous places. There are plenty of reasons which under lying the situation. Both the reasons and trends are discussed in the following paragraphs.

The foremost reason is the social media trend. Nowadays, the trend of social media is skyrocketed. Everyone is in competition to share their personal life through these media platforms. Social media users are more concerned about their likes and share on their posts. People often forget the real intent behind exploring famous places. For instance, Instagram is an addictive online social media platform where millions of reels and posts are scrolling each days. Due to this, people are being given more importance to the social media platform and less likely focus on their visits. Secondly, the well known places have a unique image which makes these places more special. Due to this, travelers have a mentality to keep memory of such beautiful places. Therefore, they often take photographs of themselves to save as a memory.

Additionally, people also take photos to show someone who haven't been a part of their journey. For example, when parents are not joining their trip. Their family member capture the photos to show them. This gives emotional attachments. Moreover, well known places such as Burj Khalifa, Taj Mahal and many more attract and encourage traveler to shoot the photographs. Taking pictures with renowned places enhance the beauty of their selfies.

To conclude the discussion, I believe that the trend is moving towards the negative side. This is to say because people are giving more importance to the photographs instead of enjoying famous places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding social media is clear, but the second reason—that people take photos to 'keep memories'—is slightly contradictory to the prompt's premise of not looking at the place. The conclusion clearly states the writer's position, but the overall development lacks depth and nuance. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the implications of this behavior rather than simply listing reasons, ensuring that your arguments are fully supported with more detailed examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. You use some cohesive devices, such as 'The foremost reason,' 'Secondly,' and 'Additionally,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are a bit mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the sentence 'Their family member capture the photos to show them.' The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and ensuring that pronouns clearly refer back to their intended antecedents.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing you to convey your meaning clearly. You use some topic-specific terms like 'social media platforms' and 'renowned places.' However, there are several instances of awkward phrasing and word choice errors, such as 'under lying the situation' (should be 'underlie') and 'people are being given more importance' (should be 'placing more importance'). The range is somewhat limited, and there is a reliance on basic vocabulary. To improve, focus on using more precise collocations and avoiding repetitive phrasing.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors that affect the fluency of the text. Examples include 'increasing number of visitors are being taken photographs' (passive voice error), 'everyone is in competition' (should be 'competing'), and 'someone who haven't been' (subject-verb agreement error). While these errors do not prevent communication, they are persistent throughout the essay. Increasing the accuracy of your verb tenses and subject-verb agreement will significantly improve your score.
