Student answer (Band 6.5)

A growing number of people visit famous places for photoshoots, without even trying to get a glimpse of that place. I contend that this is a negative development as they are moving away from their tradition and culture.

Many common criticisms are associated with the trend of going to a well-known place just for taking pictures. The primary one is that some people are self-obsessed and want to gain public attention. To elaborate, since content creation is a booming industry, many youths believe that they make some money. They visit popular places to only make videos and take pictures so that they can gain public attention on social media platforms without showing any interest in the place itself. As a result, they only visit tourist places for their benefits. To exemplify, nowadays many young people are seen taking photos and making reels for their social media accounts to gain popularity and monetize their work.

In addition to this, visiting a well-known place just for photography and videography is distancing them from their history and culture. To expound, increasing number of young individuals are using famous destinations such as historical monuments just to earn a grand. They show no interest in the historical relevance of the building. By doing this they are not only distancing themselves from their historical values, tradition and culture but also creating a negative trend for the upcoming generation. For example, many young people have lost interest in historical building just because they consume knowledge from social media apps which only shows trending videos of dancing people next to the historical buildings instead of giving knowledge about its existence.

To recapitulate, this essay has discussed that to gain public attention people visit famous places just for clicking pictures. I believe this is a negative trend as they are demeaning the value of these places buy exploiting it for their benefits.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding 'gaining public attention' and 'monetizing work' is revisited in the second paragraph under the guise of 'distancing from history'. While the ideas are relevant, they could be more distinct and deeply explored. The essay meets the requirements of the task, but the supporting examples, such as 'dancing people next to historical buildings', are a bit narrow in scope.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used effectively to separate the two main points. Cohesive devices such as 'The primary one is', 'To elaborate', 'In addition to this', and 'To recapitulate' are used to guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the flow between sentences could be smoother. The referencing is generally clear, though the connection between the 'monetization' argument and the 'loss of historical interest' could be more tightly integrated to improve the overall progression of the argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some good collocations like 'booming industry', 'historical relevance', and 'social media platforms'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice, such as 'earn a grand' (which is idiomatic but misused here) and 'buy exploiting it' (a typo for 'by'). The range is sufficient but lacks the sophistication required for higher bands. The repetition of words like 'people', 'places', and 'gain' suggests a limited vocabulary range that could be expanded with more precise synonyms.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that persist. For example, 'many youths believe that they make some money' (tense/meaning issue), 'increasing number of young individuals' (missing article), and 'lost interest in historical building' (pluralization error). Punctuation is generally correct, but the control over complex structures is inconsistent. The errors do not impede communication, but they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score in this criterion.
