Student answer (Band 6.0)

In recent years, increasing number of people are visiting new places just to take photos of themselves without knowing or doing research about the place. This trend has steamed from the infuence of social media and peer pressure and this is a negative trend.

To begin with, the primary reason for this trend is the infuence of social media. The image of visiting new places has become a status symbol of lavish life style, as many people tend to upload their photographs exploring new places and enjoying their life. These circulating photos of new places on social media has given rise to popularity of taking photos instead of knowing importance of place itself due to which, increasing number of people want to imitate the same behaviour and visit places to take pictures. For instance, many young people get influenced by the postes they see of other people visiting famous places as a result they also wants to do the same thing, constituting a visious cycle.

I believe that this trend is a negative trend as travellers will eventually loose intrest in the heritage background of place and importance of place. Additionally, travelling to new places just to click photos will curb the benefits of travelling. For example, if, people only travell for taking pictures they will miss to experience the cultural and heritage importance of the place and it will also hamper the benefits of travelling.

In conclusion, growing number traveller who travell only to capture themselves instead of enjoying the place is a result of negative infuence of social media and peer pressure created by others' pictures. In my view is a negative development as it hamper the positive effects of travelling and comes in a way of understanding cultures means of place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument that people miss out on cultural importance is stated in the third paragraph and then restated in the conclusion. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the 'why' with more varied examples or deeper analysis rather than repeating the same point. The ideas are relevant, but the support could be more nuanced to demonstrate a fuller exploration of the topic.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To begin with,' 'Additionally,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel a bit mechanical, and there are instances where referencing is slightly unclear or repetitive. For example, the phrase 'importance of place' is used multiple times in close proximity, which affects the flow. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence builds upon the previous one without unnecessary repetition would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, but there are several spelling errors, such as 'steamed' (stemmed), 'infuence' (influence), 'postes' (posts), 'visious' (vicious), 'loose' (lose), and 'intrest' (interest). These errors are frequent enough to be noticeable. While you attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary like 'status symbol' and 'lavish lifestyle,' the range is somewhat limited. To improve, focus on accuracy in spelling and try to incorporate a wider range of collocations related to tourism and social media to demonstrate more flexibility.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'increasing number of people' (missing 'an'), 'travell' (spelling), 'they also wants' (subject-verb agreement), and 'it hamper' (subject-verb agreement). Additionally, there are issues with article usage and prepositional phrases, such as 'comes in a way of understanding'. While these errors do not completely impede communication, they occur frequently throughout the text. Increasing the accuracy of basic grammatical rules and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would significantly improve your score.
