Student answer (Band 5.0)

The use of social media is one of the trend nowadays. Everyone uses it as it is used as s form of communication and information. One information that we used to share there are our photographs.

Photographs are used as our memory that we have been on a certain place and these photographs are uploaded on social medias. The photos are becoming trending especially if photos are shared by a famous individual. This can influence other people to visit that place as well without exploring more on the place.

This has positive effect on the place especially if it became trending and there are many tourist that will go to visit it.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 4.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 112 words. Consequently, the development of ideas is severely limited. While you touch upon the reasons for the trend (social media influence and the desire to share memories), the discussion is superficial. You mention that this is a positive trend for tourism, but you do not provide sufficient supporting arguments or examples to fully address the prompt. To improve, you must expand your points with detailed explanations and relevant examples, ensuring you cover all parts of the task in depth.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay lacks a clear structure. There is no introduction or conclusion, and the paragraphing is insufficient. While there is a basic attempt to link ideas, the progression is disjointed. Cohesive devices are minimal and sometimes used incorrectly, such as 'One information that we used to share there are our photographs,' which is grammatically awkward and disrupts the flow. To achieve a higher score, you need to use a wider range of linking words (e.g., 'furthermore,' 'consequently,' 'in contrast') and ensure that each paragraph has a clear central topic supported by logical sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary is basic and repetitive. Phrases like 'one of the trend' and 'the photos are becoming trending' show a limited range and incorrect word forms. There are also errors in word choice, such as 'One information,' which is a countable/uncountable noun error. The language used is generally sufficient to convey a simple message, but it lacks the precision and variety required for higher bands. You should focus on learning collocations and using more sophisticated vocabulary related to the topic of tourism and social media.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

The response contains frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'the trend nowadays' (should be 'trends'), 'as it is used as s form' (typo), and 'there are many tourist that will go' (subject-verb agreement error). The sentence structures are mostly simple, with very few attempts at complex sentences. To improve, you need to focus on subject-verb agreement, correct article usage, and diversifying your sentence structure by incorporating relative clauses and conditional forms. Accuracy needs to be a priority to ensure your meaning is conveyed clearly.
