Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays number of people travelling to a famous place just to take photograph has increased a lot. Curiosity about that place has been vanished from their instead they just want to take a picture for their social media account. I strongly believe this is a negative trend which can destroy our history and culture in future.

In today's world, advancement in technology has made photography tools affordable. Now people can buy mobile phones which have very good quality camera. Previously carrying a camera for photography was considered to be a burden for people who did't like to take photograph. But since mobile cameras have improved, tendency to take picture has been increased. This tendency has reached such a level that nowadays more and more people visit places only to take a good picture. Evolution of social media also plays a vital role for this activity. People have desire to be popular in social media so they try to get a perfect picture to receive more response in their social media account.

Famous places have significant value in the local history. Culture evolves from history which is passed from generation to generation. If we don't value our history, it will ultimately ruin our culture. For this reason, while visiting a famous place, the history behind it need should be learnt. For example, there is a famous palace in Dhaka city named "Ahsan Manjil" which was built by King Ahsan. The color of this building is Pink and it is a symbol of king's love for his wife. This description is written on the entrance of this famous place. If visitors don't read this description then they would never know why this building is Pink.

In conclusion, I would like to say people must visit well-known places to know their history. If we only go there for taking pictures then someday our history will be forgotten and culture will be ruined.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the opinion on whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear from the introduction and maintained throughout. The ideas are relevant, particularly the link between technology, social media, and the loss of historical appreciation. However, the development is somewhat limited; while the example of Ahsan Manjil is specific, the argument could be further extended by discussing the broader societal implications of this trend beyond just the loss of historical knowledge. Overall, the response meets the requirements of the task well.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is logically organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central theme. There is a progression of ideas from the causes (technology/social media) to the consequences (loss of cultural value). Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In today's world,' 'For this reason,' and 'In conclusion,' which help guide the reader. However, some transitions are slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally repetitive. The use of cohesive devices is sufficient to maintain a logical flow, but more variety in linking words would improve the overall cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'advancement,' 'tendency,' and 'significant value.' However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'Curiosity about that place has been vanished from their' (should be 'has vanished from them') and 'history behind it need should be learnt' (grammatically awkward). The range is sufficient for the task but lacks the precision and flexibility required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, such as 'Nowadays number of people' (missing article), 'did't' (spelling), 'tendency to take picture has been increased' (passive voice error), and 'history behind it need should be learnt' (incorrect modal usage). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to demonstrate better control over articles, subject-verb agreement, and more consistent use of complex sentence forms.
