Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. For instance, the explanation of why people take photos is linked to social media, but the argument regarding the 'negative' aspect is slightly repetitive and relies on extreme, somewhat illogical examples, such as the suggestion that doctors might recommend amputating limbs due to frostbite from taking a photo. The position is clear, but the supporting arguments lack the depth and logical consistency required for a higher band score.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or inaccurate. Phrases like 'At last' and 'excreta' (likely a misuse of 'etc.') disrupt the flow. The transition between ideas is sometimes abrupt, and the logical progression within paragraphs is hindered by awkward phrasing. While there is an attempt to use linking words, they are not always used with the flexibility or precision required for a higher band. The overall structure is present but lacks sophistication.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is limited and often imprecise. There are several instances of awkward word choice and incorrect collocations, such as 'crazy behind capturing photos' and 'perform mountain climbing'. The use of 'excreta' instead of 'etc.' is a significant error that impacts the professional tone of the essay. While the student attempts to use some topic-specific vocabulary, the range is narrow, and the errors occasionally impede the reader's understanding of the intended meaning. More precise and natural phrasing is needed to reach a higher band.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains frequent grammatical errors, including issues with subject-verb agreement ('one are looking', 'he usually forget'), tense consistency, and sentence structure. Many sentences are clunky or grammatically incomplete, such as 'if he will do same then he might be in a dangerous situation'. While the student attempts complex sentences, these are often where the most errors occur. Simple sentences are generally more accurate, but the overall control of grammar is inconsistent, which frequently causes difficulty for the reader.
