Student answer (Band 6.0)

There is an ongoing trend of more people going to well known places to photograph themselves without actually looking or enjoying at the place.

From my perspective, this is happening as more people are connected to the internet nowadays as compared to a decade ago, thus exposing them to new cultures and the latest developments which otherwise would have not been discovered had the world was not so connected as it is today. It seems to me that the ways of expressions change with time as before the age of social media the public used to interact face to face or through other means of communication for example letters, telegraphs and more. Since the social media platforms have arrived, sharing daily live content through photographs and videos has become the norm as it is more accessible and convenient.

Furthermore, There is little justification to point to view it as a positive trend because visiting well known places to only take photos and not actually getting known to the history or the significance is really demeaning purpose of travelling. Trends happen all the time but it is significant to actually look for some meaningfulness rather than just following or trying to replicate what is being portrayed online.

In conclusion, Although it is important to record photographs as a memory for visiting the famous places but it is equally important to get to know about the historical significance and to actually experience them rather than just following all the online trends that only stay for a while.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying the role of internet connectivity and social media as drivers for the trend, and expressing a clear negative stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. The explanation of why this happens is clear, but the discussion on why it is a negative trend is brief and lacks specific examples or deeper analysis. To reach a higher band, you should expand on the consequences of this behavior, perhaps discussing the impact on cultural appreciation or the psychological effects of performative travel. The conclusion is a bit repetitive, restating points already made rather than synthesizing them.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a basic progression of ideas from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is somewhat mechanical and limited. For instance, the transition 'Furthermore' is used, but the overall flow between sentences could be smoother. Some referencing is slightly unclear, such as the phrase 'demeaning purpose of travelling', which lacks a clear subject. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence flows naturally into the next would enhance the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

You demonstrate an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, using terms like 'connectivity', 'significance', and 'portrayed'. However, there are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation that slightly hinder the precision of your expression. For example, 'getting known to the history' is not standard English; 'learning about the history' or 'gaining an understanding of the history' would be more natural. Additionally, 'demeaning purpose of travelling' is awkward. Expanding your vocabulary to include more precise collocations and idiomatic expressions would help you move into the higher band range.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are several grammatical errors that occur throughout the text. For instance, 'had the world was not so connected' is grammatically incorrect; it should be 'had the world not been so connected'. There are also issues with article usage and preposition choice, such as 'enjoying at the place'. While these errors do not impede communication, they are frequent enough to prevent a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and the correct use of conditional structures will improve your accuracy.
