Student answer (Band 5.5)

It has been observed that nowadays individuals are travelling more to well known places to take pictures without knowing nothing about the place. In my opinion, this trend has been arise by social media and it have negative impact which will be discussed in upcoming paragraphs.

One major reason is the social media as everyone is on Instagram , Facebook and other platforms so the photographs which are posted by family or friends attract them and want to visit. Another reason is that photographs provide an easy way to record and share experiences. For some tourists , having a picture of themselves at a famous landmark is seen as a proof they have visited the place.

I believe this a negative trend for a several reasons. Firstly, people may fail to learn the historical and culture aspects. For example, a visitor may spend most the time in finding the best spot to click the picture rather than studying about the history. Secondly, this may leads people to take photos in restrict areas.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, reaching only 172 words. This significantly impacts the development of ideas. While you identify reasons for the trend (social media, recording experiences) and state your position, the ideas are underdeveloped. The conclusion is missing entirely, and the second body paragraph is very brief. To improve, you must expand on your points with more detailed explanations and relevant examples. The current length prevents a full exploration of the topic, which is a requirement for higher bands.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organised into paragraphs, which is a positive step. You use basic cohesive devices such as 'One major reason', 'Another reason', 'Firstly', and 'Secondly' to signal the progression of your argument. However, the overall flow is somewhat mechanical. Because the essay is incomplete and lacks a concluding paragraph, the logical progression is interrupted. To achieve a higher score, ensure that each paragraph has a clear topic sentence and that you use a wider variety of linking words to connect ideas more fluidly within and between sentences.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

Your vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. You use some relevant terms like 'landmarks' and 'tourists', but there are errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'this trend has been arise' (should be 'has arisen') and 'restrict areas' (should be 'restricted areas'). The vocabulary is somewhat repetitive, and you rely on simple phrasing. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and topic-specific vocabulary related to tourism and digital culture.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0

There are several grammatical errors throughout the text that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'without knowing nothing' (a double negative), 'it have negative impact' (subject-verb agreement error), and 'this may leads' (incorrect verb form). You rely mostly on simple sentence structures. To improve, focus on mastering subject-verb agreement and the use of articles. Additionally, try to incorporate a wider variety of complex sentence structures, such as using relative clauses or conditional sentences, while ensuring they are punctuated correctly.
