More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place.

Why do you think this is happening?

Is it a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.5)

In the contemporary society, many people contend to travel to famous tourist locations just to click esthetic photographs, without researching the place or planning an itinerary. This trend is happening because nowadays people love to blindly follow the social media trends. I believe, it is a negative trend. Let us discuss the given statement in the following paragraphs.

To begin with, let us shed some light on why people love to take their photographs in the famous tourist’s spots. To clarify, a section of society loves to follow and copy the trends set by the social media influencers. As they think by following these trends like taking pictures in the famous spot would give them a standing in their social circle. To cite an example, famous Canadian youtuber such as Christian LeBlanc or Nadine Sykro are travel vloggers, their content is enormously based on the famous tourist places. They post esthetically pleasing pictures of famous places around the world. People who have passion for travelling or loves to try new places, follows their vlogs blindly and visit to the same places without researching, as they think the travel vloggers would not give wrong information. They forget the fact that these people get paid to promote the location or the country. As a result, to have a standing in the social circle people blindly visits the tourist spots just to take pictures and post them on their social media such as Instagram, Facebook, snapchat, etc.

On the contrary, travelling to famous places without researching just to take pictures is a negative trend. To explain, people can face difficult situations like financial constraints, as they would not have a planned itinerary, and their budget would be all over the place. For instance, if a person wants to take picture in the Toronto’s famous landmarks such as CN Tower, without researching the location they will not have any idea about the price of tickets or the activities. Thus, the person can face finacial pressure just to follow trend of taking pictures in the famous location. Moreover, people can also face theft at the famous locations, or could get lost in an unkown surroundings. Hence, blindly following the famous trends can put a person into difficult situations, which could break their trust and could lead them towards depression.

To incapsulate, it can be concluded that influencers plays a pivot role in influencing people to blindly visits famous places to take photographs so they could have a social backing. Although this trends, helps the tourism sector to generate their revenue, but would be considered as a negative trend as people can fall into some difficult situations.

The progression of ideas is generally clear, although the flow within the second body paragraph is occasionally hindered by slightly awkward phrasing, which makes the connection between points less smooth than it could be.

The student demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, including terms like 'contemporary society', 'itinerary', and 'financial constraints'. There are some inaccuracies in word choice and collocation, such as 'click esthetic photographs' (take aesthetic photographs), 'tourist’s spots' (tourist spots), and 'pivot role' (pivotal role). Spelling errors like 'finacial' and 'incapsulate' occur. While the vocabulary is sufficient to convey meaning, the errors prevent it from reaching a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
