Student answer (Band 6.0)
In this modernised world, it is increasingly common for individuals to visit well-known places with the intention to capture photographs, rather than exploring their destination. Social media influence and peer pressure are the two prominent factors behind this trend and I believe it is an entirely negative trend because it reduces people's appreciation for cultural and historical values and raises safety concerns.
One of the primary reasons why individuals are inclined towards taking photographs is the growing influence of social media. This is largely because these social platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, share aesthetic pictures to gain attention through likes and comments. Thus, with this strategy, adventurous individuals are more likely to be influenced to visit those places to recreate similar pictures with the same backgrounds. As a result, individuals visit those popular destinations to take pictures instead of exploring the historical significance of those particular places. For example, in India, many youngsters nowadays visit Taj Mahal, which was built by Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife. In spite of its captivating historical significance, it is reported that this place loses its historical significance due to excessive tourism with photographic focus.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response fails to meet the minimum word count requirement of 250 words, as it is significantly under-length at 194 words. While the essay introduces the topic and clearly states a position regarding the reasons and the negative nature of the trend, the development is severely curtailed. The second body paragraph is missing entirely, meaning the second part of the prompt (the negative impact) is only briefly mentioned in the introduction rather than being explored with supporting arguments or examples. Consequently, the response is underdeveloped and fails to address all parts of the task fully.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a logical flow in the introduction and the first body paragraph. Cohesive devices such as 'In this modernised world', 'One of the primary reasons', and 'As a result' are used effectively to link ideas. However, the lack of a complete essay structure—specifically the absence of a second body paragraph and a conclusion—limits the overall coherence. The paragraphing is incomplete, which prevents the development of a clear, sustained progression of ideas throughout the response.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary used is generally appropriate and sufficient for the task. Phrases such as 'captivating historical significance', 'aesthetic pictures', and 'peer pressure' demonstrate a reasonable range. There are no significant spelling errors, and the word choices are accurate in context. However, the range is somewhat limited due to the brevity of the text, which prevents the demonstration of a wider, more sophisticated vocabulary that would be expected in a longer, more complex piece of writing.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5
The essay displays a good control of grammar with a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. Sentences like 'This is largely because these social platforms, such as Instagram and Facebook, share aesthetic pictures to gain attention through likes and comments' are grammatically sound. There are very few errors, and punctuation is generally handled well. While the range of structures is adequate, the limited length of the essay restricts the opportunity to showcase a wider variety of complex grammatical forms.
