Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and offering an opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is limited. The explanation of why this happens is somewhat repetitive, focusing heavily on social media addiction without exploring other psychological or cultural motivations. The discussion on the positive and negative impacts is brief and lacks depth, particularly regarding the 'positive' aspect, which is not fully supported with convincing examples. To reach a higher band, you should provide more detailed arguments and ensure that your position is clearly maintained throughout the essay.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0
The essay is organized into paragraphs, but the logical progression of ideas is often hindered by awkward phrasing and limited use of cohesive devices. While some linking words like 'However' and 'In addition to that' are used, they are sometimes placed incorrectly or used to connect ideas that do not flow naturally. The referencing is occasionally unclear, and the concluding paragraph is very brief, failing to effectively summarize the main points of the argument. Improving the use of transition signals and ensuring each paragraph has a clear topic sentence would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.0
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There is significant repetition of basic terms such as 'photos', 'videos', 'social media', and 'addiction'. Some word choices are imprecise or non-idiomatic, such as 'sticking to the social media' and 'internet media'. There are also minor errors in word formation, such as 'blogs' used instead of 'vlogs'. To improve, you should aim to use a wider variety of synonyms and more sophisticated collocations to express your ideas more accurately and naturally.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.0
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede readability. Common issues include subject-verb agreement (e.g., 'people wants', 'everyone is showing'), incorrect article usage, and errors with pluralization (e.g., 'takes a photographs'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma placement and sentence boundaries. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors limits the score. Focusing on basic sentence construction and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be a great starting point for improvement.
