Student answer (Band 6.0)

These days, increasing number of people are visiting popular places just to capture some pictures and that to without even looking at the place. There are so many reasons behind that which I will discuss in the forthcoming paragraphs alongside why it is considered to be a negative trend.

To begin with, nowadays, usage of social media platforms like Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook has increased a lot. Because of that people love to show off about their lifestyle by capturing photos of themselves at new places that are very popular. It has become a trend that if you have taken more number of photographs at new places then you are popular than others. Other reason could be money. As people are being paid to post a photographs and reels on social media platforms, everyone is trying to visit as many places as they could without even searching anything about the place.

However, this trend has some disadvantages too. When people visit a place which is far from their home without even looking at it, they do not only waste their money but time too, if it's not a good place. And in today's busy life, it is really hard to get some free time, but when we spend it on things like this rather than spending that time with the family members, we are missing too many things. Furthermore, if a person does proper research about the places before visiting it, he could choose the one that interests him.

To Conclude, I believe that people wants to earn a money and do a show off in front of their friends, which is why they are visiting places without looking at it. But, because of that they could not spend their time and money where it matters the most.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding the financial motivation for visiting places is a bit superficial and could have been expanded with more specific examples or deeper analysis. While the response covers all requirements, the arguments remain at a somewhat general level, which prevents it from reaching a higher band. The conclusion effectively summarizes the main points, maintaining a consistent stance.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'To begin with', 'However', and 'Furthermore' are used to link ideas. However, the use of these devices is sometimes mechanical, and there are instances where the flow between sentences feels slightly disjointed. For example, the transition between the social media argument and the financial argument in the second paragraph is abrupt. Paragraphing is used appropriately, but the overall progression of ideas could be smoother to achieve a higher score.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts to use topic-specific vocabulary like 'social media platforms' and 'lifestyle'. However, the range is somewhat limited, and there are recurring errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'do a show off' instead of 'show off' or 'to post a photographs' (article error). The vocabulary is generally functional but lacks the precision and variety required for a higher band score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the' usage), subject-verb agreement ('people wants'), and pluralization ('a photographs'). These errors are noticeable but do not impede communication. The control over complex structures is inconsistent, and the punctuation is generally acceptable, though some phrasing is awkward. To improve, the writer should focus on basic grammatical accuracy, specifically regarding articles and noun-verb agreement.
