Student answer (Band 6.0)
These days, a lot of people tour popular places to take pictures of themselves, without looking at the place. I believe this happens; probably the place is allowed for every individual, or it is not a restricted area. This essay will explain whether it is positive or negative and my perspectives.
First of all, people go to such places to photograph themselves because the place might be attractive, and besides, there might not be any security guiding the premises. However, they don't look at the place; it might be dangerous because the owner might not be happy to see them taking pictures without consulting him, and this might lead them to serious issues, and this might be a negative trend.
On the other hand, it might turn out positive because individuals might have the chance to take photos anytime they want provided they keep the area clean and make sure everything is intact. If the place is a tourist site, people could not just go and snap pictures, but there will be rules regulating these places, and this would turn out positive because the place would be monitored by a guide who would make sure the area is tidy, and it can earn them money if they start taking entrance fees from such people.
Moreover, I believe that it might be positive because taking charge before people visit the area for their pictures might be a source of income to the owner. I had an experience where my friends and I tried to go out to a site where we used to take photos; by then it was free, but later they started taking fees before one could enter, and they earned lots of money. Surprisingly, they were not charging much, so everybody could afford it, and due to that they made the place more beautiful than expected.
I think this is a positive trend that will benefit the owner or the country.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and providing a personal opinion on whether it is positive or negative. However, the development of ideas is somewhat superficial. The explanation for why people take photos without looking at the place is weak, focusing on 'lack of security' rather than the psychological or social media-driven motivations typical of this phenomenon. The argument for it being a positive trend is also slightly repetitive, focusing heavily on the potential for entrance fees. To reach a higher band, you should explore deeper reasons, such as the desire for social validation or the 'fear of missing out' (FOMO), and provide more nuanced arguments regarding the impact on the experience of the location.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0
The essay is organized into clear paragraphs, each with a central focus. There is a logical progression from the introduction to the body paragraphs and the conclusion. However, the use of cohesive devices is sometimes mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'it might be' or 'this might be'. Referencing is generally clear, but the flow between sentences could be improved by using a wider variety of linking words and phrases to connect ideas more fluidly. The transition between the idea of 'security' and the 'positive trend' of charging fees feels a bit abrupt.
Lexical Resource — Band 6.0
The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for higher bands. You rely on basic terms like 'attractive', 'good', and 'beautiful'. There is an attempt to use some topic-specific vocabulary, such as 'tourist site' and 'entrance fees', but the overall range is limited. Some word choices are slightly unnatural, such as 'snap pictures' or 'taking charge before people visit'. To improve, try to incorporate more sophisticated collocations and academic vocabulary related to tourism, social behavior, and economic impacts.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0
The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with article usage, verb tense consistency, and sentence construction. For example, 'the place is allowed for every individual' is unclear, and 'by then it was free' is an awkward way to express a past state. Punctuation is generally functional, but there are some run-on sentences that could be broken up for better clarity. You demonstrate an ability to use complex sentences, but they often contain minor errors that slightly impede the flow.
