Student answer (Band 6.0)

Many tourists prefer to capture their own photos while visiting famous places, instead of exploring the area. This happens due to increasing trend of social media and getting the validation from others. This is indeed a downfall approach.

Touristing at new place and focusing on snapping themself is becoming common. This is happening as everyone is trying to prove themself among others. For example, my friend always takes various picture, showcasing their travel in different countries. She later posts these pictures in instagram and tag her friends. After getting response from them, she get a sense of accomplishment and showcase herself greater then others. In growing trend of social media, people are looking at brighter side of others and feeling their own life downgraded. This leads to inferiority complex.

A solution to this could be being real and accepting our true self. No filter, no hypes and no focus could help in simple and natural life. This can be solved by giving coaching and mentoring them to recognize their own beauty. After which individual will start focusing on places or other exploration. Life coaches play a vital role in this. Another solution revolve around technology, wherein cameras and social media Apps should avoid any kind of filters. Using those filters, anyone can make themself look good and change their appearance. This raises competition of looking better, especially in teen agers and adults. We must raise a campaign to convey this message of accepting whatever we are.

In conclusion, I see that self-obsession pushes people to focus on themself, rather then outside world. Additionally, can impact individual's confidence and change their focus. However, there are multiple solutions to encounter this problem by coaching, being real, and accepting ourself as it is.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. You clearly state that it is a 'downfall approach' (negative). However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. While you provide a personal example about a friend, the analysis of why this happens could be more deeply explored beyond just 'social media validation.' The solutions provided in the third paragraph are a bit tangential; the prompt asks for reasons and your opinion on the trend, not necessarily a detailed plan for life coaches or app developers. To improve, focus more on expanding the implications of this behavior on society rather than shifting to prescriptive solutions.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. You use some cohesive devices such as 'For example,' 'In conclusion,' and 'Additionally.' However, the flow between sentences is sometimes mechanical, and some transitions feel abrupt. For instance, the jump from discussing the friend's behavior to the 'inferiority complex' could be smoother. The use of referencing is generally clear, but there are instances where the connection between ideas could be more sophisticated. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the introduction, body, and conclusion, which helps the reader follow your argument.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

You have an adequate range of vocabulary to convey your meaning, such as 'validation,' 'inferiority complex,' and 'self-obsession.' However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'downfall approach' (instead of 'negative trend'), 'touristing at new place' (instead of 'visiting new places'), and 'showcase herself greater then others' (instead of 'superior to others'). There are also minor errors in word form, such as 'teen agers' (teenagers) and 'hypes.' To reach a higher band, focus on using more precise collocations and ensuring that your vocabulary is used in a natural, idiomatic way.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. However, there are frequent grammatical errors throughout the text. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('she get a sense,' 'another solution revolve'), article usage ('in instagram'), and pluralization ('various picture'). While these errors do not completely impede communication, they are frequent enough to be noticeable. To improve, pay closer attention to basic subject-verb agreement and the correct use of prepositions. Increasing the variety of complex structures while ensuring they are error-free will help you move toward a higher band score.
