Student answer (Band 6.0)

Nowadays, due to enhancement in the technology people can capture wonderful moments. Many people may only prefer to click pictures of themselves, when they visit the renowned places regardless of looking at the place. The reasons why it is happening and the negative effects of the given trend will be discussed in the following paragraphs with the relevant examples.

One of the most prominent reason is , the increase in use of social media, in today's world individuals use the social media to share their life updates and special moments with their friends, colleagues, and relatives. This change the perspective of the people because by uploading stories and posts on social media applications such as Instagram and Facebook, people can show their lifestyle to others. Furthermore, the beautiful pictures with the abundance of memories can be saved for the future to show their children and to make them freshen again. Some people reckon that pictures have capability to hold the memories. Consequently, they like to save their memories in the form of photography.

The negative effect of the given trend is deprived from the true knowledge, when people visit places especially linked to the history, and they spend most of their time to click their own pictures instead of focusing on the details of the place. As a result, people may not be able to know about the history of the place. Additionally, people may have the collection of the snaps of themselves but the time which is already gone can not be bring back. Individuals have been wasting the real moments of the life by clicking pictures of the places.

To conclude, although it is not a bad idea to take a few photographs of themselves when people visit places, people should focus more on the places and the current moments that they have been spending with their loved ones.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout, and the ideas are relevant. However, the development is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding why people take photos is clear, but the discussion on the negative impact could be more deeply explored with more specific examples beyond just 'historical places'. The conclusion provides a summary, but the overall development of the argument remains at a general level rather than providing a nuanced analysis. To reach a higher band, ensure that each point is supported by more detailed reasoning or illustrative examples.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is logically organized into paragraphs, each with a clear focus. There is a progression of ideas from the introduction to the conclusion. Cohesive devices such as 'Furthermore', 'Consequently', and 'Additionally' are used to link sentences. However, some of the transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing and sentence flow, such as the awkward phrasing in the third paragraph: 'The negative effect of the given trend is deprived from the true knowledge'. Improving the variety and naturalness of cohesive links would enhance the flow of the essay.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey their meaning clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'prominent', 'reckon', and 'abundance'. However, there are also instances of imprecise word choice and collocation errors, such as 'deprived from the true knowledge' (likely meaning 'stems from a lack of') and 'make them freshen again'. These errors do not impede communication, but they do limit the precision of the argument. Expanding the range of topic-specific collocations would help improve the score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. While the meaning is generally clear, there are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, verb forms, and punctuation. For example, 'One of the most prominent reason is ,' contains a subject-verb agreement error and an unnecessary comma. Additionally, 'the time which is already gone can not be bring back' contains a passive voice error. While the writer attempts complex structures, these errors are noticeable and occur throughout the text. More attention to proofreading for basic grammatical accuracy would be beneficial.
