Student answer (Band 6.0)

Taking pictures while visiting places has become common in these days in order to make that visits memorable, however this is negative trend as they spend huge amount of money to go that places but they just take photographs without seeing at that place.

The major reason of taking photos is show off in front of others as most of people use social media like whtsapp, instagram, Youtube and facebook so they need pictures and videos to post on them in order to get comments and likes which ultimately assist them to get money from these applications. For instance, If a person get 1million likes on his/her video on instagram then this app pays to him/her $1000 for that post which helps them to get money without doing any hardwork. What is more, People take selfies while going to places to make that moments memorable with their near and dear because that time will never come back.

This is negative fashion as of spending alot of expenses on these trips and coming back without seeing them and just take pictures only, . Take an example, if a person is working full-time job and taking off from his work and visiting any famous place with his family, and come back with collecting some photos without looking at the place so it is worthless as well as waste of money for him, as he can watch this place on internet as well while sitting home, why does he needs to take off and spending money on that trip. Thus, while going anywhere people should see that place very closely and enjoy that live moment, not just focus on getting photographs.

In conclusion, this is a negative trend that people visit a place while spending their valuable time as well as huge money to organise trip to any particular place and come back with having pictures only, not enjoy the beauty of that well-known place.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.0

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive. For instance, the argument regarding social media monetization is a specific point, but the discussion on 'worthless' trips is restated multiple times without adding new depth. To improve, you should aim to explore the psychological aspects of this trend, such as the 'fear of missing out' or the desire for social validation, rather than focusing solely on financial gain or the waste of money.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, each with a clear focus. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or slightly awkward. Phrases like 'What is more' and 'Take an example' are used, but the flow between sentences is sometimes interrupted by grammatical errors. Referencing is occasionally unclear, such as in the second paragraph where the transition between social media and the desire to make memories feels abrupt. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would enhance the overall coherence.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.5

The vocabulary is adequate for the task but lacks the precision and range required for a higher band. You rely on basic phrasing such as 'huge amount of money', 'well-known places', and 'negative fashion'. There are also some issues with word choice and collocation, such as 'coming back with collecting some photos' instead of 'returning with only photographs'. To reach a higher band, you should incorporate more sophisticated vocabulary related to tourism, digital culture, and social behavior, and ensure that your collocations sound more natural in an academic context.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede the flow. Common issues include subject-verb agreement ('If a person get'), article usage ('the' vs 'a'), and awkward sentence construction ('this is negative trend as they spend'). Punctuation is also inconsistent, with some run-on sentences and unnecessary commas. While the meaning is generally clear, the high frequency of these errors prevents the essay from reaching a higher band. Focusing on basic sentence structure and proofreading for subject-verb agreement would be highly beneficial.
