Student answer (Band 7.0)

It is irrefutable that thesedays, many people visit renowned tourist destinations just to take pictures rather than exploring the places. While there are various causes behind this phenomenon such as lack of time and influence of social media, I believe that it is a completely negative development because of the detrimental impact on youngsters and tourism industry.

There are several reasons why this is happening. The major one is the impact of digital media. Many individuals want to post their photographs on social media accounts as majority of people like to show-off in front of their friends and relatives. Visiting unique places has become a symbol of social status due to which tourists focus on photos more rather than enjoying the views. Moreover, working people have hectic schedule which makes it difficult for them to spend time while exploring the well-known places. This becomes the reason that they just take some pictures in rush without even looking at the places. Therefore, the anxiety of reaching home on time does not let them enjoy the sightseeing.

On the other hand, I consider that this trend has considerable adverse social impact. The major disadvantage is that when people consider the famous places merely an amazing view for their photos, it may increase social conflicts. As some places have religious and cultural importance, the ignorant behaviour of tourist might be considered quite disrespectful. For instance, some content creators were caught making videos at The Golden temple in past years which hurt the feelings of Sikh people due to which thephotography was banned completely at that sacred place to maintain discipline. Consequently, the tourists may face dismissive attitude from local people if they are disrespecting their historical places. Furthermore, this gives wrong message to young people as well. Instead of gaining historical information from these places, they may consider these plaes just an recreational source. Hence, preservation of the beautiful places becomes useless.

In conclusion, due to lack of time and show-off on online media, people show dismissive behaviour towards tourist places. I opine that it should be changed as it demotivates the younger people to learn about their roots and may lead to social tensions.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

You have addressed all parts of the prompt, providing clear reasons for the phenomenon (social media influence and time constraints) and a firm stance on whether it is a positive or negative trend. Your position is consistent throughout the essay. The ideas are well-developed, particularly the example regarding the Golden Temple, which effectively illustrates the potential for social conflict. To reach a higher band, ensure that your arguments are balanced; while you mention the 'detrimental impact on youngsters,' this point could be expanded further to explain exactly how this shift in behavior affects their long-term appreciation of culture, rather than just stating it is a 'wrong message.'

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear progression of ideas. Each paragraph has a central theme, and you use a variety of cohesive devices such as 'Moreover,' 'On the other hand,' and 'Consequently' to link your points effectively. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the causes from the consequences. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and there are minor issues with referencing, such as 'This becomes the reason that they just take some pictures,' which is a bit clunky. Improving the flow between sentences by using more sophisticated referencing would elevate the coherence of your writing.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.5

You demonstrate a sufficient range of vocabulary to discuss the topic with precision. Phrases like 'irrefutable,' 'renowned tourist destinations,' and 'detrimental impact' are used accurately. You also attempt less common collocations such as 'dismissive attitude' and 'maintain discipline.' There are a few minor errors in word choice and spelling, such as 'thephotography' (spacing error) and 'plaes' (spelling error), as well as 'recreational source' which is slightly unnatural in this context. Overall, your vocabulary is adequate for the task and allows for clear communication of your ideas.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.5

You use a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, which is appropriate for this task. There is good control over grammar, though some minor errors persist. For example, 'thesedays' should be two words, and 'as majority of people' requires an article ('the majority'). Additionally, 'thephotography was banned' contains a spacing error. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent a higher score. To improve, focus on article usage and proofreading for small mechanical slips, as your ability to construct complex sentences is already quite strong.
