Student answer (Band 6.5)

Majority of the society visit popular places on earth to take photographs of themselves, without enjoying the actual view. This essay will discuss the above and give reasons why this negative trend is happening in our society.

In this contemporary society where influence of social media is increasing day by day, the excitement of anything real is shifting towards reels. People worry about posting online to get validation from others rather than enjoying the moment. Platforms like Instagram, Snapchat and Facebook have shaped our youth in such a way that almost every individual takes their phone out to click pictures before even looking at the place properly. For ex: Boys trip nowadays focus solely on creating content for social media rather than having a good time together.

Adding on, the mindset to showoff others about their status and lifestyle has impacted social welfare among each other. People find great satisfaction in letting others know that they have rich lifestyle. This trend of social media and showing off is negative because it hampers the actual relationships build on accepting somebody whoever they are. For ex: Elder people in villages live a boring life in desperation to talk to youth about life lessons which truly mean something. However, most of the people are busy in living a fake life on instagram, this in result create small fractions in relationships with parents and grandparents.

In conclusion, the real satisfaction is in real relationships and living in the moment. Travelling is one of the best outdoor activities to recreate oneself. But we should be aware of our surroundings and live in the moment.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat limited. For instance, the explanation regarding 'social welfare' and the connection to 'elder people in villages' is a bit tangential and lacks a strong logical link to the main topic of photography at tourist sites. To improve, ensure that every supporting point directly reinforces the central argument about why people prioritize photos over experiences.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 6.5

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, and there is a clear progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'In this contemporary society', 'Adding on', and 'In conclusion', which help guide the reader. However, some transitions feel slightly mechanical, and the referencing is occasionally imprecise, such as the phrase 'this in result create small fractions', which lacks a clear antecedent. The paragraphing is appropriate, but the flow between the second and third paragraphs could be smoother to better connect the social media aspect to the impact on relationships.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, with some attempts at more sophisticated phrasing like 'contemporary society' and 'recreate oneself'. However, there are several instances of awkward word choice and collocation errors, such as 'Majority of the society' (should be 'The majority of society'), 'showoff others' (should be 'show off to others'), and 'create small fractions' (likely meant 'fissures' or 'rifts'). While the meaning is clear, the range is somewhat limited, and the errors prevent a higher score.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are several grammatical errors, particularly with articles ('the influence', 'the excitement') and pluralization ('Elder people' should be 'Elderly people'). Some sentences are slightly ungrammatical, such as 'most of the people are busy in living a fake life', which should be 'busy living a fake life'. While these errors do not impede communication, they occur frequently enough to prevent the response from reaching the Band 7 level, which requires more frequent error-free sentences.
