Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is been observed that nowadays sizeable population is visiting popular locations to take pictures of themselves, disregarding to take a look at the place they are visiting. There are certain reasons behind this happening which I will assert in this essay and put my viewpoint based on close scrutiny of those reasons.

There are many causes for why people are becoming more inclined towards taking pictures instead of enjoying the place. Firstly, I believe that social media is making the bigger impact on people's life. My viewpoint is supported by the fact that individuals are getting influenced by the ones who visit this well-known places and make their mind to go over there to take pictures and post over social media platforms just to show up. Secondly, some people are oriented towards taking as many photographs as they want because they want to make the memories which will be stored in a form of photographs. For instance, if they capture pictures, they make themselves happy by seeing them repeatedly and they can live that moments again.

Even if this statement or viewpoint sounds somewhat optimistic, I personally affirm that it is a negative trend and I do have some strong points to put forward. To begin with, If visitors visit places just for taking pictures, it will affect the business of the local people working over their and ultimately the economy of the state or country. For example, if people do not buy things or do not participate in activities over there, it does not make any sense to the local people to make profits from there business. Additionally, this individuals will not give attention to take a look at the history of the place and to know more about it, therefore they will end up having too little knowledge of the place they visit.

In a nutshell, although there are some positive perceptions of taking pictures on whenever we visit new places, the negative trend outweigh it's optimistic side. As a result, I conclude that people should give equal importance to take pictures and enjoy the place to make it memorable.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 6.5

The response addresses both parts of the prompt: the reasons for the trend and the evaluation of whether it is positive or negative. The position is clear throughout. However, the development of ideas is somewhat uneven. The explanation regarding social media is relevant, but the argument about the economic impact on local businesses is slightly underdeveloped and lacks a strong logical link to the act of taking photographs. While the ideas are relevant, they could be extended with more specific examples or deeper analysis to reach a higher band. Overall, the response is well-structured and directly answers the prompt.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is logically organized with a clear introduction, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate the reasons from the evaluation. Cohesive devices such as 'Firstly', 'Secondly', 'To begin with', and 'In a nutshell' are used to guide the reader. However, there are some instances of mechanical or slightly awkward referencing, such as 'this individuals' (should be 'these individuals') and 'over their' (should be 'over there'). Despite these minor issues, the progression of ideas is clear and easy to follow throughout the response.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to express their ideas clearly. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, such as 'scrutiny' and 'inclined', which are used correctly. However, there are several instances of word choice errors and awkward collocations, such as 'disregarding to take a look' instead of 'disregarding the place itself' and 'make the memories' instead of 'create memories'. While these errors do not impede communication, they indicate a need for more precise control over word choice to reach a higher band.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay uses a mix of simple and complex sentence structures. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with articles, subject-verb agreement, and prepositions, such as 'It is been observed', 'this well-known places', and 'there business'. While the meaning remains clear, these errors are persistent and occur throughout the text. The writer demonstrates an ability to use complex structures, but the accuracy is inconsistent. To improve, the writer should focus on proofreading for basic grammatical agreement and article usage, which would significantly enhance the overall quality of the writing.
