Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt, identifying reasons for the trend and expressing a clear negative stance. However, the development of ideas is somewhat repetitive and lacks depth. The essay is also slightly under the 250-word minimum, which impacts the overall task completion. While the main points regarding social media validation and the loss of authentic experience are relevant, they are not fully extended with sophisticated reasoning or varied examples. The conclusion essentially restates the introduction without adding new insight. To improve, you should aim to expand your arguments with more detailed explanations and ensure you meet the minimum word count requirement.
Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.5
The essay is organised into paragraphs, which helps the reader follow the structure. However, the use of cohesive devices is often mechanical or repetitive, such as the frequent use of 'People' to start sentences. Transitions between ideas are sometimes abrupt, and the logical flow within paragraphs could be smoother. For instance, the transition from discussing smartphone technology to the impact on the experience is a bit disjointed. Improving the variety of linking words and ensuring that each sentence logically follows the previous one would significantly enhance the coherence of your writing.
Lexical Resource — Band 5.5
The vocabulary is generally adequate for the task but lacks the range and precision required for higher bands. There are several instances of awkward phrasing, such as 'viewing at the spot' instead of 'viewing the spot' and 'do not focus their beautiful place enjoy'. The use of 'what’s up' (WhatsApp) is informal and inappropriate for an IELTS essay. You rely on basic vocabulary and struggle with collocations. To improve, focus on learning more academic synonyms and practicing correct word combinations to express your ideas more naturally and precisely.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 5.5
The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence structures, but there are frequent grammatical errors that occasionally impede clarity. Examples include 'people are doing upload their photos' (incorrect verb form), 'mobile company provides' (missing article), and 'they take give attention their photos' (syntax error). Punctuation is also inconsistent, particularly with comma usage. While the meaning is generally understandable, the high frequency of errors in basic grammar and sentence construction prevents a higher score. Focusing on subject-verb agreement and correct verb tense usage will help improve your accuracy.
