Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 5.0

The candidate addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing why people take photographs of famous places without looking at them and considering both positive and negative aspects. However, the development of ideas lacks depth and focus. For instance, the discussion on positive aspects mentions tourist awareness, but the connection is muddled by awkward phrasing. The negative effects focus heavily on fake content leading to crime, which slightly drifts from the specific core of the prompt regarding tourists simply documenting their presence rather than experiencing the location. The position is stated but remains somewhat superficial throughout. Band 5 is awarded because the response addresses the prompt overall, but ideas remain limited, repetitive, and under-developed.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 5.0

The essay is divided into four paragraphs, demonstrating a basic attempt at structure. However, logical progression is frequently disrupted by poor cohesion and mechanical transitions, such as 'On the one hand' followed by sentences that lack clear logical ties. Referencing is often unclear, as seen in phrases like 'Which make them upset' and 'When public post unreal content then others get negetive effects'. Paragraphing is present, but internal cohesion is weak and repetitive, resulting in a somewhat disjointed reading experience. Transitional phrases are overused or misused, hindering the natural flow of ideas. These features align closely with the Band 5 descriptors for Coherence and Cohesion.

Lexical Resource — Band 5.0

The vocabulary used is basic and repetitive, frequently impeded by noticeable spelling and word choice errors. Examples include 'accesible', 'arguee', 'negetive', 'sence', 'entertaing', 'thorugh', 'jalous', 'sucide', and 'helpfut'. The range is minimally adequate to convey the general argument, but frequent errors in collocation and spelling cause difficulty for the reader and obscure meaning in places. Less common lexical items are attempted, such as 'efficiently' and 'luxurious', but they are outweighed by persistent inaccuracies. This performance reflects the criteria outlined for a Band 4.5, rounded to 5.0 based on positive marking of overall communicative intent.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 4.5

The response features a very limited range of structures, with frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and sentence boundaries. Run-on sentences and comma splices are common, such as 'Digital media has undergone significant transformation, In recent years, Taking photographs themselves make more accesible...' Simple sentences dominate, and attempts at complex structures are frequently faulty, leading to severe grammatical breakdowns like 'Which make them upset becuse they thought we havenot life like this'. Errors are frequent and often cause strain for the reader, matching the characteristics of Band 4.0, though the presence of some basic correct structures and comprehensible points allows for a Band 4.5, rounded to 4.5.
