Student answer (Band 6.5)

It is highly debatable issue these days, that majority of the visitors prioritize clicking personal pictures whether than admiring the beauty of the tourist attraction. It is a negative trend. In this essay I will discuss possible causes, both sides of this behaviour and give my opinion.

To start with, some people mainly focus on taking photographs of themselves without caring about the privacy of other visitors, which is completely unacceptable behaviour. First and foremost reason is that, majority of the individuals get influenced by influencers on social media platforms. The TV actors and influencers shares every single detail about their lives on social platforms and earn hefty amounts of money which eventually promote this kind of trend among members of public. Second significant reason for this trend is hunger for fame. Individuals click and share private photos to get name and fame like famous TV actors and stars.

Therefore, It is a completely a negative trend. When visitors mainly focus of capturing themselves they disrespect the famous tourist place and also miss the chance to learn about that place. Moreover, when tourists only focus on taking own pictures without caring about others privacy they ruin their visiting experience. For example, Golden Temple in India some visitors just visit there and click photographs instead of knowing the historical background and importance of the temple, which is disrespectful behaviour towards that religious Sikh temple. As that temples holds a great history of Sikh religion.

On the other side, thanks to technology advancement everyone owns a smartphone. Which helps them to collect memories and share with other within one click. So people click pictures to store memories and cherish those later on. But this only be acceptable when it is done in moderation.

In my opinion, It is a negative development as by following this trend people are missing on a lot of valuable knowledge and experience. Photography should be done in moderation just to collect memories but not to completely ignore the place. So governments should implement strict laws to restrict photography on valuable tourist places.

Task Achievement / Task Response — Band 7.0

The student addresses all parts of the prompt by discussing the causes of people taking photos of themselves at famous sites rather than appreciating the location, and clearly states a position that this is a negative trend. Ideas are supported with relevant explanations and examples, such as the mention of social media influencers and the Golden Temple in India. However, the development of some points tends to over-generalize, and the structure outlined in the introduction is slightly confused when the writer states 'both sides of this behaviour' despite declaring it a negative trend from the outset. Overall, the task is addressed adequately, fitting the criteria for Band 6.5, which rounds to Band 6 or 7 depending on depth; here, the ideas are sufficiently extended, meeting Band 7 descriptors.

Coherence and Cohesion — Band 7.0

The essay is organized into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and consequences, a counter-perspective, and a conclusion. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'To start with', 'First and foremost', 'Second significant reason', and 'Therefore', providing a clear logical progression throughout. However, referencing and transitions are at times slightly mechanical. Paragraphing is used appropriately, and the overall arrangement maintains coherence and allows the reader to follow the argument smoothly, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7 range.

Lexical Resource — Band 6.0

The student demonstrates an adequate vocabulary range for the task, attempting less common items such as 'hefty amounts', 'disrespectful behaviour', and 'technology advancement'. However, there are noticeable lexical errors and inappropriate word choices, such as 'It is highly debatable issue' (missing article), 'whether than' instead of 'rather than', 'shares' instead of 'share' for plural actors, and 'visitors mainly focus of capturing' instead of 'on'. While these inaccuracies occur, they do not impede communication, placing the vocabulary use firmly within Band 6.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy — Band 6.0

The essay contains a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating attempts at varied structures like relative clauses and conditional elements. However, there are frequent grammatical errors in punctuation, articles, and prepositions, such as 'Therefore, It is a completely a negative trend', 'as that temples holds', and sentence fragments like 'Which helps them to collect memories'. Despite these errors, meaning is rarely obscured, and simple sentences are usually accurate. This balance of mixed structures and persistent errors is characteristic of Band 6.
