More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place.

Why do you think this is happening?

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Photography has increased on famous places nowadays and people do not pay much attention while visiting well-known places. The reason for this is technology and gaining popularity through social media by uploading the photos. In this essay, I will discuss these reasons and also mention the negative as well as positive aspects of this trend.

During vacations, tourists are more interested in taking pictures rather than seeing the place carefully. This is because availability of smartphones which have high quality camera features allow them to click photos quickly. Similarly, sometimes visitors only visit the popular locations to gain popularity through social media accounts such as you tube, Facebook , and Instagram. For example, influencers gain followers by using the photos of famous places without knowing anything about that place. However, not having enough time to know every detail, visitors save the photos to read the information when they reach home is a also a reason to consider.

This trend has both negative and positive effects in general. Nowadays, people waste their time to click the pictures on places where they spend money on arranging tickets, taking holidays from work, and consuming their time and energy. These photos are uploaded on social media to show family and friends about their location of vacations. Most often, they are unaware about the history and significance as they are only paying attention in clicking the pictures. Another aspect of this trend, saving the unnecessary pictures and wasting phone memory as they do not have a second look after clicking the pictures.

To conclude, nowadays, people only visiting well-known places just to click photos and upload on social media accounts. As a result spending money and consuming energy in arranging vacations is not worthwhile if only motive is to gain popularity.
