Student answer (Band 6.0)
Many people in recent time travel to popular locations to take selfies of themselves without exploring the sites. in my own view, this is a negative development.
One major reason for this trend is desire for social media validation. platforms like facebook, instagram, tiktok and snapchat has given people access to share lifestyle on social media. going to these popular places to take a picture just to feel among and up to trend thereby putting unnecessary pressure on the younger people. people no longer visit popular places to explore but to take pictures for the media. in addition, the checklist of modern tourism. because of cheap flights, many people try to visit a lot of famous places and spend little time there just to get a picture for the media. for instance, people visit the airport without having a flight to catch just to take pictures and this might send wrong message to their audience.
Furthermore, this can diminish the value of tourism. if travelers stops observing the architecture and history of the
place, they will fail to gain the cultural understanding . again, it causes problem at the tourist sites. crowd of people taking pictures can cause conjection an most time distract people that actually came for important purpose like work meetings and this can also affect the income flow of the place because people that do not like crowded area will start avoiding the locations because of the crowd.
In conclusion, people visiting popular places just to take pictures instead of learning about the center is a negative development because it is declining the values of tourism.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5
The response addresses both parts of the prompt effectively. The student identifies clear reasons for the trend, such as social media validation and modern tourism checklists, and clearly states a position that this is a negative development. Ideas are extended and supported with examples, such as visiting airports without a flight. However, some arguments could be explored in greater depth to reach a higher band. For instance, the discussion on cultural understanding and tourism value is slightly condensed in the third paragraph. Overall, all parts of the task are addressed with a clear and consistent position throughout, aligning well with the Band 6.5 or Band 7 descriptors.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The essay demonstrates a clear overall progression. Ideas are organized into distinct paragraphs, beginning with an introduction, followed by body paragraphs for causes and impacts, and concluding with a summary. Cohesive devices are used, such as 'One major reason', 'in addition', and 'Furthermore'. However, referencing and punctuation are sometimes faulty or mechanical, as seen in missing capitalization ('in my own view', 'platforms like facebook') and minor run-on issues. Paragraphing is present and generally appropriate, though internal cohesion could be smoother. These features correspond well to a Band 6 score.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully incorporating terms such as 'social media validation', 'architecture and history', and 'cultural understanding'. There are some attempts at less common vocabulary, though this is occasionally accompanied by inaccuracy or awkward phrasing, such as 'conjection' (congestion) and 'income flow'. Spelling errors like 'facebook', 'instagram', and 'tiktok' lacking capitalization detract slightly from lexical accuracy, but overall, the vocabulary is sufficient to convey the intended meaning without impeding communication. This performance reflects the criteria for Band 6.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writer attempts a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing relative clauses and conditional structures. However, there are frequent errors in punctuation, capitalization, and article usage throughout the text. Examples include lowercase beginnings of sentences ('in my own view', 'platforms like', 'furthermore, this can'), missing articles ('distract people that actually came for important purpose'), and subject-verb agreement issues ('snapchat has given', 'travelers stops'). While these errors do not impede overall communication, they occur too frequently for a higher band. The grammar demonstrates the characteristics typical of a Band 5.5 or Band 6.
