Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, interest on taking photographs amoung individuals has increased significantly. Many people visit famous places today and capture photographs of themselves rather than enjoying these places beauty. The main reson behind this nature is that somany people are obsessed with showing off their lives to the public today than in the past and this is a negative trent .

Firstly, people take pictures of themselves mainy to show them to the public using social media today. They want to update their lives on various online platforms especially to get likes and comments from their loved once. This create a feeling of happiness and they receive an opportunity to talk to strangers. As a result, many individuals feel relaxed in their fast- paced lives. For instance, there is a sudden increase in the number of people who portrays themselves on the instagram after a visit to famous places just to get more likes in their profile post. Hence, people use this trend to show off their lives to the outside world.

On the other hand, this is a negative trend because it would detrimentally affect people's behaviour. Many individuals would be more self-obsessed in the long run. The more they give importance to themselves, the lesser they enjoy these beautiful destinations. For example, what is the point of seeing any natural scenery of beautiful places without actually enjoying it.

In concusion, people are giving more importance today to portrays themselves to the public after visiting any famous place. They are becoming more self obsessed due to their social media usage and it is a negative development. This would make people become less interested in observing these places .

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, identifying why people take photographs of themselves at famous places without enjoying them—primarily for social media validation—and clearly states that this is a negative trend. The position is maintained throughout the essay. Ideas are extended and supported, such as mentioning the desire for likes and comments to feel relaxed, and the long-term psychological impact of self-obsession. However, some arguments tend to over-generalise or remain slightly under-developed, particularly in the reasoning regarding why individuals neglect the scenery itself. Examples like posting on Instagram help ground the response. Overall, the task is successfully covered, aligning well with the Band 6.5 to 7.0 requirements, but settled at Band 6.0 due to some generalisation and slight repetition in development.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay displays a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical progression from introduction to body paragraphs and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately, with each paragraph addressing a distinct aspect of the prompt (the causes in the first body paragraph and the negative nature in the second). Cohesive devices are employed, such as 'Firstly', 'On the other hand', 'For instance', and 'In conclusion'. However, referencing and cohesion are sometimes a bit mechanical. For instance, the phrase 'this nature' is imprecise, and some transition links feel slightly repetitive. Paragraph breaks are clear, and the overarching structure ensures the reader can easily follow the writer's argument. These features place the response solidly at Band 6.0.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'detrimentally affect', 'self-obsessed', and 'fast-paced lives'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors throughout the text, including 'amoung' instead of 'among', 'reson' instead of 'reason', 'somany' instead of 'so many', 'trent' instead of 'trend', 'mainy' instead of 'mainly', 'once' instead of 'ones', 'portrays' instead of 'portray', and 'concusion' instead of 'conclusion'. While these errors do not impede overall communication, their frequency prevents the lexical score from reaching Band 6.5 or higher. The writer demonstrates a functional vocabulary, but accuracy requires closer attention.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0

The writer employs a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, demonstrating some control over relative clauses and conditional structures, such as 'The more they give importance to themselves, the lesser they enjoy these beautiful destinations.' There are, however, several grammatical and punctuation errors present, such as 'interest on taking photographs' instead of 'interest in taking photographs', 'portrays themselves' instead of 'portray themselves', and missing commas after introductory transitional phrases. Additionally, verb form errors occur, such as 'people becomes' or similar tense inconsistencies. Despite these errors, they rarely impede communication, allowing the response to secure a Band 6.0 for grammatical range and accuracy.
