Student answer (Band 6.0)
In the past people use to visit popular sites to get to kow about the place. But we have seen an ongoing trend now where majority of the people visit famous places just to take pictures of themselves, without even sightseeing. I think it is a negative trend and it should not be promoted.
I think this is happening because of social media influence. When someone looks at their social media and notices that so many people are visiting a certain place, they get influenced. They feel the urge to visit that place, only to click some pictures to post it on their social media, to gain some likes and views. This gives them a sense of validation, which makes them feel good about themselves.
In my opinion it is a highly negative trend. First of all you don't get to enjoy the essence of the place, you are in a hurry to click photos and to upload them on your socials. You don't get to interact with anyone, because that is not your purpose. I met one of my very dear friend at a very famous museum many years ago. If I had been busy on my phone clicking selfies I would not have met such an amazing person.
Secondly This trend has caused many great places become overcrowded. I went to France on a work trip and on my free time I decided to visit the Eiffel tower with a friend. When we got there it was so overcrowded with people just taking pictures of themselves, we could not properly enjoy the place. It felt like I wasted my free time coming to this place.
It feels good to follow a trend to get some validation on the internet at first, but it impacts you negatively in the longer run.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by explaining why people visit well-known places to take photographs without sightseeing and clearly states a position that this is a negative trend. The student introduces relevant ideas, such as the influence of social media, the desire for internet validation, the loss of experiential depth, and overcrowding at tourist spots like the Eiffel Tower. While some ideas like the personal anecdote about meeting a friend add relevant support, certain points could have been extended further to fully develop the discussion for a higher band. However, the position is well maintained throughout the essay. This performance meets the criteria for Band 6.5, leaning towards Band 7 due to clear task coverage.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The response demonstrates a clear overall progression and logical organisation. The essay is divided into logical paragraphs, with an introduction, body paragraphs addressing causes and negative effects, and a concluding thought. Cohesive devices are used adequately, such as 'First of all' and 'Secondly', to guide the reader through the arguments. However, referencing and cohesive links are occasionally simplistic or slightly mechanical (e.g., 'Secondly This trend...'). Paragraphing is generally appropriate, although the conclusion is a single brief sentence. Overall, the structural progression is coherent enough to satisfy the requirements for a Band 6.0.
Lexical Resource: Band 6.0
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, attempting some less common items such as 'ongoing trend', 'validation', and 'overcrowded'. However, there are noticeable limitations and occasional inaccuracies, such as 'get to kow' (know), 'click some pictures', and repetitive use of words like 'visit', 'place', and 'trend'. Spelling and word-choice errors do not impede communication, but they reflect a restricted flexibility. These characteristics align closely with the Band 6.0 descriptors for Lexical Resource.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 6.0
The writer demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, including conditional structures ('If I had been busy... I would not have met...') and relative clauses. There are several grammatical and punctuation errors throughout the text, such as missing articles ('at a very famous museum'), missing commas after introductory phrases ('In my opinion it is'), and a capitalization error ('Secondly This'). Despite these errors, the sentences remain comprehensible and communication is not impeded. This demonstrates the control typical of Band 6.
