More and more people nowadays visit well-known places to take photographs of themselves, without looking at the place.

Why do you think this is happening?

Is it a positive or a negative trend?

Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Student answer (Band 6.0)

Now a days, people are visiting well-known places and take photographs of themselves, rather than seeing the beauty of architecture and the surrounding.This has become a more of a trend and keeping photographs to share their experience with world rather than keeping it as a memory.

The impact of social media is very high on poeple that they forgot the real reason of visiting the sites. When they visit the site they are more encouraged to take photos and videos of the landmark so that they can upload their content on Facebook, Instagram or Tiktok to gain more followers and popularity. In this way the places who were less visited are now being visited the most. For example if a person went to Paris and visited Eiffel Tower, he spend most of his time finding the right angle to take his pictures rather than acknowledging the history of the landmark.

Taking pictures is also very trending because technology has played a vital role in it. People have modern devices, mobiles and cameras for pictures. They experience capturing the beauty of these sites to assess their photography skills.

There is a positive site of this trend as well. When people see post of public figure, they gain motivation to visit these beautiful landmarks and to get the travelling experience. They also take photographs to keep them as a memory and to share their experience within their circle.

So in my opinion, taking pictures at the historical places or beautiful attractions can have both positive and negative impact. As far as people specially youngsters dont try to make any stunt there to gain timely popularity this behaviour of people is adaptable.
