Student answer (Band 6.0)

In today's world, publishing photos is crucial part of everyday life. There is an increasing proportion of individuals who prefers recording visiting a landmark by cameras to actually paying attention to the place details and living the rich experiance of visiting such a memorable place. In this essay, I will discuss why this is taking place and how I believe it is a negative trend.

One major reason for this is that social media play a crucial role in everyone's lives. Social media have turned life into a series of competitions where everyone is trying to prove living the most valuable life experience. For example, bloggers are trying to show off their houses, cars, private planes and travels.

I believe this is a negative trend because people are no longer living the experience rather than limiting themselves to recording it. For example, a museum visitor will not spend time appreciating the art but will take a photo of it and leave hastely or someone can pubmish a photo of a fine meal he never had the time to taste. Additionally, photos no longer reflect genuine experiences but may adversly affect the viewers who compare real life to what they watch on social media leading them to depression.

In conclusion, individuals are visiting well-known places only to take photos to post on social media platforms. This is a negative trend as people forget to live the experience and viewers are deceived by fake photos leading them to depression. I firmly believe we need to put an end to this trend.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

The response addresses all parts of the task, offering reasons for the trend and clearly stating a position that it is a negative development. However, some ideas are more fully developed than others. For instance, the discussion on social media pressure is relevant, but the points are somewhat generalized and could be extended with more detailed examples. The writer successfully identifies both why people take photos without engaging and why this is harmful, meeting the requirements of a balanced response, though further elaboration on the consequences would elevate the task response.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The essay presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear introduction and conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate distinct ideas, such as the causes in the second paragraph and the negative effects in the third. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or slightly faulty, such as in the transition 'rather than limiting themselves' and the referencing within sentences. While the logical flow is generally maintained, clearer cohesive ties between and within paragraphs would enhance the overall structure and readability of the text.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary used is adequate for the task, demonstrating an attempt to incorporate less common items and thematic phrases such as 'landmark', 'bloggers', and 'genuine experiences'. However, there are notable spelling and word-choice errors that slightly affect precision, such as 'experiance', 'hastely', 'pubmish', and 'adversly'. These errors do not impede communication, but they highlight the need for greater control over word forms and spelling. Expanding the range of precise collocations would help lift the lexical score further.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The essay demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures like 'There is an increasing proportion of individuals who prefers...' and 'In this essay, I will discuss...'. There are some grammatical errors present, such as subject-verb agreement ('individuals who prefers') and minor prepositional or article slips. Nevertheless, these errors are relatively infrequent and rarely impede communication, allowing the reader to follow the argument easily. A wider variety of error-free complex structures would be needed to reach the next band.
