Student answer (Band 5.0)
Nowadays it is a very common thing for people to showcase their lifestyle through pictures or videos via social media. And there is also an ongoing debate about people visiting well known places and clicking pictures of themselves rather than admiring the beauty of that particular place. In this essay I will explain both the positive and negative trends of this and also provide a conclusion.
Social media influences people to imitate the lifestyle of others. On a positive note some people wants to keep a memory of them visiting the place whereas some people wants other to feel jealous by posting the pictures and videos.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5
The response only partially addresses the prompt due to its severe brevity. As noted in the length check, the essay contains only 106 words, falling far short of the minimum 250-word requirement. Consequently, the ideas presented are extremely limited and under-developed. While the introduction briefly touches upon why people visit well-known places to take photographs, the body paragraph fails to fully explore the causes and completely neglects whether the trend is positive or negative. To achieve a higher band, the writer must ensure all parts of the prompt are fully discussed with extended, well-supported arguments.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5
The text shows some basic organisation, opening with an introductory paragraph that outlines the topic and states the essay's intent. However, there is no clear overall progression or logical conclusion. Paragraphing is attempted, but the transition between the introduction and the sparse body paragraph lacks coherence. Cohesive devices are minimal and mechanical, such as the repetitive use of 'some people' in the second paragraph. To improve this criterion, the writer needs to logically sequence ideas across multiple fully developed paragraphs and use a wider variety of cohesive ties to connect arguments smoothly.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The vocabulary used is adequate for basic communication, featuring common phrases like 'social media', 'lifestyle', and 'take pictures'. However, the range is limited and repetitive, with words like 'people' and 'pictures' appearing multiple times. There are also slight lexical inaccuracies, such as saying 'some people wants' (which relates to subject-verb agreement) and mixing 'take photographs' with 'clicking pictures'. To reach a higher band, the writer must employ a wider range of less common lexical items with greater precision in collocation and style.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The writing demonstrates a limited range of structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at complex forms. There are frequent grammatical errors, particularly with subject-verb agreement as seen in 'some people wants' and 'some people wants other to feel'. Punctuation is generally acceptable, but articles and prepositions show occasional lapses. To progress to the next level, the writer needs to demonstrate a greater variety of complex sentence structures with significantly fewer errors.
