Student answer (Band 6.0)
Nowadays, people are more active on social media by sharing pictures and videos by following different trends. Many people visit famous places just to take attractive photographs of them instead of enjoying the place. Thay want to share their pictures online to gain some like, shares and followers on social media. In my opinion, this is negative trend because people are just taking pictures rather than enjoying the place.
I believe that, this is because of the popularity of the social media apps such as Facebook and Instagram. However, tourists click pictures of themselves rather than learning about culture and history of the landmarks. Also, people want to upload impressive pictures online to gain some likes and shares. For example, my friends were visited famous lake in Chandigarh to click photographs over there and did not visited the surrounded area.
Moreover, travelling is more about enjoying the place rather than catching pictures in devices. If tourists focus on clicking photos, they do not properly enjoy local culture or natural beauty. In addition, taking too many photographs can disturb other tourists and sometimes damage famous tourist sites. The real purpose of travel is lost.
Overall, the main reason of this is due to over popularity of social media. It is also a negative development because it reduces the quality of travel and stops people to enjoy the places they visit.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0
The response addresses all parts of the task by discussing why people visit famous places to take photographs and clearly stating the position that this is a negative trend. However, some ideas are under-developed rather than fully extended. For instance, the explanation of social media motivation is somewhat repetitive, stating that people want to share pictures for likes and followers in both the introduction and body paragraphs. Additionally, the length requirement is not met, as the response contains 229 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. To reach a higher band, the writer needs to provide more thorough elaboration and specific examples for each main point while ensuring the word count requirement is fully satisfied.
Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0
The text maintains a coherent overall arrangement with a clear position stated in the introduction and reinforced in the conclusion. Paragraphing is used appropriately to separate different ideas, such as the causes of the trend and its negative consequences. However, cohesion is sometimes mechanical or faulty. Transition devices like 'Also' and 'Moreover' are used, but referencing is not always clear, and the logical progression between sentences occasionally feels abrupt. For example, moving from the example about Chandigarh to the general discussion of travel lacks a smooth transitional bridge. To improve, the writer should use a wider variety of cohesive devices more naturally and ensure tighter logical links between sentences.
Lexical Resource: Band 5.5
The student uses an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'attractions', 'cultural', and 'landmarks'. However, there are noticeable lexical inaccuracies and awkward word choices that reflect limitations in collocation, such as 'gain some like' instead of 'likes', 'catching pictures' instead of 'capturing pictures', and 'over popularity' instead of 'overwhelming popularity'. There are also minor spelling and pluralization slips like 'did not visited'. To achieve a higher score, the writer needs to demonstrate more precision in word choice, better control of collocations, and a wider variety of sophisticated lexical items used accurately.
Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5
The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, utilizing structures such as 'Many people visit famous places just to take... instead of enjoying...' and 'If tourists focus on clicking photos, they do not properly enjoy...'. There are some errors in grammar and punctuation, including subject-verb agreement issues ('friends were visited', 'did not visited') and article usage ('the social media apps'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede communication and the meaning remains clear throughout. To move up to the next band, the writer must increase the proportion of error-free complex sentences and demonstrate better control over verb tense consistency.
