Student answer (Band 6.0)

Tourism has influenced a significant number of people nowadays. Similarly, people are visiting famous places without exploring them, insted they are interested in capturing photographs. I personally believe that just to showcase their status on social media, all this is happening. In addition, it is a negative development as it affects the historical values of that places.

To commence with, in today's time individuals are using their smartphones to their maximum and under the influence of other people, they tend to go to well-known places and click photos of themselves. After taking those photos, they just come back their home without exploring the actual facts and stories of that locations. For instance, in India, many tourists visit City Palace in Udaipur, Rajasthan. However, they do not boather to take guide with them to gather knowledge about that palace. Most of them come out taking selfies and photographs. As a result, they maintain their social status.

Moreover, in my opinion, it is a complete negative trend to follow. This can affect the value and heritage of the location. In other words, people will forget to learn about the historical places at the deepest, if they just go and take photos there. The cultural and traditional values will be disappeared in the coming future, if this trend will continue. For illustration, people are forgeting the hostorical aspects of the great Taj Mahal in Delhi, India. Because, visitors are going there for creating memories for their social media platforms.

To summarize, from my perspective, in order to maintaining a social status in the society people are following the trend of capturing more photographs while visiting popular places. However, it will affect negatively to the next generation, as there will be less number of individuals who knows actual stories of those places to carry forward.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.5

The response addresses all parts of the prompt, discussing both the reasons for the trend and providing a clear position that it is a negative development. The ideas are relevant, such as the desire to showcase social status on social media and the loss of historical appreciation. However, some parts are more fully developed than others. For instance, the explanation regarding the Taj Mahal and social media platforms is somewhat repetitive and under-developed, relying on sweeping generalisations rather than fully extended support. To reach the next level, the ideas would need more thorough elaboration and specific, fully realised examples that avoid generalising without deep analysis.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.5

The response presents a coherent overall arrangement with a clear logical organisation. Progression is visible throughout, moving from an introduction to causes, then to consequences, and finally a summary. Paragraphing is used sufficiently and appropriately, with each main body paragraph focusing on a distinct aspect of the prompt. However, cohesion is at times mechanical or faulty. Devices such as 'To commence with', 'Moreover', and 'To summarize' are utilised, but referencing and transitional links can feel slightly rigid. To achieve a higher standard, the flow between sentences and paragraphs would need to be smoother and less formulaic, avoiding repetitive transitions.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The writer demonstrates an adequate range of vocabulary for the task, successfully attempting less common items such as 'heritage', 'historical aspects', and 'social status'. However, there are noticeable spelling and word-choice errors that reflect a limited control of collocations and word forms, such as 'insted' instead of 'instead', 'boather' instead of 'bother', 'hostorical' instead of 'historical', and 'forgeting' instead of 'forgetting'. Furthermore, awkward phrases like 'maintain their social status' and 'to maintaining a social status' reveal limitations in precision. To improve, the writer needs to exercise greater accuracy in spelling and ensure that less common vocabulary is paired naturally.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The response demonstrates a mix of simple and complex sentence forms, attempting structures such as conditional clauses ('if this trend will continue') and participial phrases ('After taking those photos'). There are some errors in grammar and punctuation throughout the text, including article misuse ('take guide with them', 'in the society'), incorrect prepositions ('come back their home'), and tense errors in subordinate clauses ('if there will be less number of individuals who knows'). Fortunately, these errors rarely impede overall communication. To move up, the writer must display greater control over complex sentence patterns and eliminate recurring structural inaccuracies.
