Student answer (Band 5.0)

Nowadays keeping up with the trend of social media has been a real challenge. People are becoming famous and rich just by uploading pictures of themselves with beautiful background on Instagram, Facebook and Tik-Tok. All these have both positive and negative effects and all depends on what perspective you are looking at it. Personally, I am not fond of taking pictures whether it is of myself or anything else.

People consider moving along the trend of digitalisation as important. Some take it as their passion as they like to be famous on media whereas others depend on it for a living. Different people used it for different purposes. Nevertheless, all these are easily accessible with the advancement in technology and now the trending is Artificial Intelligence(AI).

The positive aspect of people uploading photographs on reels, is that feeling of sharing their emotion at that particular moment while seeing their facial expression. Some people likes to immortalize a specific moment which is either funny, rare or unusual.

However the negative aspects is of misusing the photographs of people without prior authorisation and posting on social media. This could adversely cause prejudice to that person.

In my opinion, it is important to make good utilisation and safeguarding personal belongings is important to avoid any unwanted surprises.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 3.5

The response only partially addresses the prompt. While it attempts to discuss why people take photographs of themselves and mentions a few aspects related to social media, the ideas remain very limited and under-developed. Furthermore, the length requirement is not met, as the essay contains only 214 words, falling short of the 250-word minimum. The writer spends too much time on general personal opinions, such as stating 'Personally, I am not fond of taking pictures,' rather than fully exploring the causes behind the trend and analyzing whether it is positive or negative with sufficient supporting arguments and relevant examples.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 4.5

There is some organisation in the essay, and the text is divided into paragraphs, but there is no clear overall progression of ideas. Cohesive devices are somewhat inadequate, and referencing is occasionally unclear, such as abrupt transitions between paragraphs. For example, moving from the benefits of sharing emotions to a completely disconnected paragraph about the misuse of photographs lacks smooth linking words and logical sequencing. The progression feels disjointed, hindering the overall flow of the response.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

The vocabulary range is limited but minimally adequate for the task, allowing the writer to convey basic concepts like 'social media,' 'digitalisation,' and 'Artificial Intelligence.' However, there are noticeable errors in word choice and collocation, such as 'the trending is Artificial Intelligence' instead of 'the current trend is Artificial Intelligence,' and 'adversely cause prejudice' instead of causing harm. These lexical inaccuracies and awkward phrasings sometimes cause slight difficulty or confusion for the reader.

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

The writer uses a limited range of grammatical structures, relying mostly on simple sentences with occasional attempts at more complex forms. However, attempts at complex structures are often faulty, and there are frequent errors in verb forms, subject-verb agreement, and plurals. For example, 'Some people likes to immortalize' contains a clear agreement error, and 'all depends on what perspective' lacks necessary prepositions and articles. These frequent errors persist throughout the text and can cause some difficulty for the reader.
