Student answer (Band 6.0)

The question of whether many people only travel around popular places for taking pictures withouet even giving any attention to that place has positive oe negative impact? I strongly believe that it is a negative trend because it can make people less connected with real life experiences.

The strongest reason for my position is that growing use of social media and it's influence on society is extremely concerning, as many individuals just travel to different famous place after watching others and their pictures, because they try to gain attention by doing same on the social media applications, which can limit their approach of any travel experience to only for taking photographs with them. For instance, many people visit Statue of Liberty in New York with the local ferry to capture their pictures only and they do not really land at the place to see the actual building and it's related history.

A further discussion on this trend can be the advanced technology and gadgets such as smartphones, digital recording sunglasses and mini cameras. The widespread use of these gadgets allow people record high quality photos anywhere and instantly share them with their family or friends. For example, many places do not allow individuals to bring camera devices, that makes them aggressive or unhappy which can lead to poor ecperience foe others too. As a result, capturing and posting pictures has become an essential part of every travel experience.

To conclude, the popularity of social media and the convenience of smartphone devices are the primary reasons for this trend. I believe that prioritising only pictures is not good.

Task Achievement / Task Response: Band 6.0

Your position is clear: you consider the trend negative because it can weaken people’s connection with real travel experiences. You also address both questions by identifying social media and technology as causes, and the Statue of Liberty example helps illustrate your point. However, the explanation of why people take photographs is developed more fully than the evaluation of whether this is positive or negative. The second body paragraph mainly describes devices and restrictions on cameras; its link to the trend’s effects on visitors is less clear. The conclusion restates your view but does not add much reasoning. To strengthen the response, explain more directly how prioritising photographs affects appreciation of places, and develop the consequences for individuals or other visitors.

Coherence and Cohesion: Band 6.0

The response has a recognisable structure, with an introduction, two body paragraphs and a conclusion. The ideas generally progress from social-media influence to technology, and signposts such as “The strongest reason,” “For instance” and “To conclude” help readers follow the discussion. However, some connections are mechanical or unclear. In the second body paragraph, the point about places restricting cameras does not clearly follow from the claim that gadgets make photography convenient, and “As a result” introduces a conclusion that is not fully established by the example. The final paragraph is very brief and repeats the main position. Make each paragraph follow a clear cause–effect sequence, and use linking phrases only where the relationship between ideas is explicit.

Lexical Resource: Band 5.5

You use a relevant range of vocabulary, including “social media,” “widespread use,” “essential part” and “prioritising,” which allows you to discuss the topic clearly. There are also attempts at more specific expressions, such as “local ferry” and “related history.” However, several word choices and collocations are inaccurate or awkward, including “popular places,” “gain attention by doing same,” and “approach of any travel experience.” Spelling slips such as “withouet,” “ecperience” and “foe” also reduce accuracy. Aim for more natural topic-specific phrasing and check spelling carefully. For example, describe people as seeking “online attention” and say they “focus on taking photographs rather than exploring the destination.”

Grammatical Range and Accuracy: Band 5.5

You attempt a mix of simple and complex sentences, including clauses with “because,” “which” and “that,” and most of your meaning remains understandable. Some grammatical errors occur, however, particularly with agreement, articles, possessives and sentence construction. For example, “The widespread use of these gadgets allow” should use a singular verb, while “it's influence” needs the possessive form “its.” The opening question is also difficult to follow as a sentence, and “many famous place” needs a plural form. Review sentence boundaries and check subject–verb agreement and possessives when editing. More consistently accurate complex sentences would make your reasoning easier to follow.
